Radiohead Are Officially Working On A New Album
A tweet from Nigel Godrich has led many fans to assume that Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood and Thom Yorke are currently hard at work on the band’s ninth studio album.
Godrich, who has previously produced several of Radiohead’s albums including OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief, took to his personal Twitter account to tease the information on Wednesday. You can check out his un-captioned message below.

Fans of the band might also be interested in the instruments that Greenwood and Yorke can be seen playing with in the image, too. The pair are clearly toying with modular synthesizers, which suggests that they might be returning to the electronic based rock music that has become a staple of their albums for over a decade now.
This is the first suggestion that Radiohead are now all in the studio working together on new music. Earlier this year Greenwood told the Sunday Times [via Variety] that they still didn’t have an official release date for the album, but it was teased that recording would begin in September.
“Release? No, no idea. No,” Greenwood declared. “Our plan is to start making music soon. We’ve just got to get the inertia back.”
This will be Radiohead’s ninth studio album. Their previous releases started off with 1993’s Pablo Honey. This was then followed by the critically acclaimed The Bends and OK Computer in 1995 and 1997, respectively. These albums proved that Radiohead were one of the most progressive and idiosyncratic bands of the modern era.
They went on to develop their sound even further with 2000’s Kid A and 2001’s Amnesiac, which combined different genres, specifically electronic with rock, to create a truly unique sound. Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows, and The King of Limbs each followed in 2003, 2007, and 2011, respectively, and they each suggested that Radiohead’s future albums will continue to evolve in this fashion regardless of taste and sales.
Radiohead shocked the music world when they self-distributed both In Rainbows and The King Of Limbs on their website. This saw the band, which is comprised of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, and Philip Selway, allow the general public to pay whatever they wanted in order to own the record.
Yorke and Greenwood have been rather busy over the last few months. Greenwood recently finished scoring Inherent Vice for Paul Thomas Anderson, while Yorke only released his latest solo album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, in September.
