‘Sons of Anarchy’ Episode Has A Shocking Plot Twist You Won’t Believe: Recap
Spoiler Alert: The next to the last episode of Sons of Anarchy before the finale was nothing less than brilliant and that’s putting it lightly. Tuesday’s SOA show featured a major plot twist that, while in the spirit of the outlaw biker gang family, caught many by surprise, according to a CNN recap. If you haven’t cued up your TIVO, and don’t want to know what is taking the internet by storm, stop reading. If you’re all in, fasten your seat belts.
Gemma is at it again, but this time, her exploits have come to an end — literally. Sons of Anarchy protagonist, Jackson Teller or Jax (Charlie Hunnam) killed his mother (Katey Sagal), execution-style, after learning the truth about who killed his wife, Tara: Gemma did it, not some rival gang as he believed.
People sat down with Sagal, who dished on her journey, the show’s amazing twist, the impact on the show and it coming to an end after a six-year run. As one can imagine, her character’s demise was shocking, but in keeping with the Sons of Anarchy tradition, central characters are not spared from the Grim Reaper; it’s the nature of how “badass” outlaws go out, according to Sagal.
“As we’ve seen before, central figures have lost it much earlier than Gemma. We lost Clay in season six, so nobody was really safe. You are never quite sure when you are going to go. I knew I had made it to the seventh season, and then Kurt said it would be toward the end.”
“For a character like Gemma, even to live is like, what’s worse? At the point you see her in the episode, death is a relief. It all caught up to her. By forming that, then there were conversations about what would be the most fitting, most horrible way for her to die.”
Variety‘s TV critic Brian Lowry weighed in on the iconic shocker. He lauded the creator’s work and suggested that not more could have been done to captivate the audience by killing off Gemma.
“Say what you will about ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ but series creator Kurt Sutter clearly doesn’t want to cross the finish line with an ounce of gas left in the tank. So the program’s penultimate episode featured a number of major events, leaving behind only the upcoming finale, which, given the length of these last few chapters, will begin on a Tuesday and might not wrap up until some time Thursday.”
Inquisitr previously covered a story about the props and memorabilia from Sons of Anarchy after the show’s finale. For the most part, some of the items appearing in the series will be auctioned off. Some items up for bid are biker costumes (of course), the president’s gavel, Nero’s business cards, Jax’s crash Harley and helmet, Chib’s rosary, Tara’s wedding ring and more.
Gemma’s bling, hat box and even the skateboard she used to hit Cherry are on the auction blocks. However, one Sons of Anarchy item not up for grabs will be her brown leather jacket. It was made for her in the pilot ahead of the first episode and helped to define her character. Now, here’s a burning question: will Jax die in the finale?
The final SOA episode on FX is scheduled for December 9. The auction ends the next day.
