Russell Brand Threatens To Sue ‘The Sun’ Over Front Page Story That Questions His Housing Arrangement And Labels Him A Hypocrite

Russell Brand is threatening to take legal action against the newspaper The Sun. Brand is enraged by the paper’s front page story that alleges that he is a hypocrite, because of his current housing arrangements, reports The Guardian.

Brand pays rent for his beautiful London home to a firm that is registered in the British Virgin Islands. The islands are often referred to as a tax haven, The Sun reported.

The comedian, who has called for a revolution and taken part in protests on anti-capitalism, loudly responded to the newspaper’s front page allegations. He made his intentions to sue very clear on Twitter.

Earlier this month Brand was part of a protest with hundreds of residents and supporters of New Era estate located in Hoxton, east London. The protest was prompted by fears that the owners, the U.S. investment firm Westbrook, was going to raise rents.

A spokesperson from The Sun told The Guardian that they were aware of Brand’s threat to sue, but that they had not yet had any contact with him.

Brand lost his temper earlier this week with a journalist in Downing Street. Brand lost control when he was asked how much his rent was at his home in east London, reports The Independent.

Brand became very agitated with Channel 4 news reporter Paraic O’Brien. Brand pointed his finger in O’Briens face and called him snide. O’Brien went on to suggest that London’s housing problem are increased by the rich buying property in the capital.

Brand took to his YouTube channel to discuss the interview later in the day. He referred to the interview as a “quarrel at a jumble sale”.

“I shouldn’t be allowed on television. I’m so easily wound up. What does it matter to me, what have I got to lose, just from this one bloke?” Brand said.

“But I’m a volatile person. When you talk to a journalist I sort of think it’s a combination of boring and really annoying, and my personality type is not well suited to that kind of environment,” the comedian added.

During the interview Brand was asked about the value of his home.

“It’s rented. We don’t know the value. You would have to talk to my landlord. Blessedly, I can afford my rent and I’m prepared to stand up for people that can’t,” Brand said.

“I’m not interested in talking to you about my rent, mate. I’m here to support a very important campaign,” Brand added just before calling the reporter snide and abruptly ending the interview.
