A Whopper Of A Mystery Remains As Police Search For Rightful Owner Of $100,000 Found At A Burger King

A Burger King in California is the center of a whopping mystery. A worker discovered a backpack filled with close to $100,000 at a table inside the popular fast food restaurant.

The fast food chain’s assistant manager, Sahista Bakawla, at its North Bascom Avenue address in San Jose was the first to notice the blue backpack that was abandoned on a booth, reports The Huffington Post.

“I twice cleaned, like two or three times cleaned the tables and it’s still here. I waited until 3 p.m. and nobody came here,” Bakawla said.

The assistant manager picked up the backpack and took it to the back where she called for her boss. He opened it in hopes of finding some form of ID, or a phone number for its owner.

“I open the zipper, I see lots of money, cash money, $100 bills stack up like half the bag, money. I said, ‘Wow! Today’s my birthday, this is my birthday gift,'” restaurant owner Altaf Chaus said.

But for Chaus that was just a fleeting thought. Chaus did not pocket the cash instead he called the police to report what they had found, reports Pix11.com.

“I’ve been in this country 26 years and I worked two jobs for 15 years before I bought this Burger King. So I’m a very hard working man. I don’t want that money, maybe it belongs to somebody,” Chaus added.

When the police arrived and checked out the bag they discovered the money, candy, an ATM card, phone numbers, a bag of marijuana and a “white rock” that they state could possibly be drugs, NBC Bay Area reported.

Local authorities are working closely with the bank to try and locate the money’s owner.

Police informed the Burger King owner that if the money remained unclaimed he would be eligible to keep the money. Chaus said if that happens he will donate the money to charity.

” I am Muslim, and we believe that you have to sweat to get what you earn. We say: ‘If you don’t sweat, it’s not your money. God has given me a good life, and I’m happy with that. I might donate the money to needy people…I think you should do the right thing,” he said.

This is a story about someone doing the right thing in a world filled with bad things just in time for the holidays!

So readers, if you had found this much cash would you have turned it in or went shopping for the holidays?
