Season 19 of Dancing with the Stars has wrapped, and a winner has been declared. That means that many DWTS fans are already turning their attention to Season 20 set to debut in the spring, wondering if Derek Hough and other popular pros will be returning. What does Derek say about his plans regarding the show?
Derek Hough’s fans know that he tends not to make solid decisions regarding future seasons with Dancing with the Stars too far ahead of time. He’s taken a couple of seasons off, but he has surprised DWTS fans several times in the past year or two by returning again and again. Will he be back for Season 20, one already getting a lot of hype due to it being a big anniversary season?
Hough writes in his TV Guide blog that at this point, it’s simply too early to say for certain. He admits, though, that he can’t imagine not being a part of the 10-year anniversary of the show that he’s been with for so long. Derek adds that he feels lucky and thankful to be a part of it, and DWTS fans have long seen that the show holds a special place in his heart.
While fans love to see Derek on each season, many die-hard Hough fans also feel, at times, that he should perhaps spread his wings and fly to embrace other opportunities. Somehow, Hough manages to keep many plates spinning at once though. He recently appeared on the NBC show Nashville , he released a book and and he did a dance a tour with his sister Julianne all over the course of the past few months. Derek even notes that he’s going to work on some music and will add it to his YouTube page.
Given all that Derek already has on his plate, he teases that he’s got some other things in development that he can’t talk about quite yet. He even jokes that he might manage to sneak in a two-day vacation somewhere soon. It is tough to see where Hough could fit in the rigorous schedule of Dancing with the Stars with so much else going on, but he always seems to find a way.
After the DWTS finale Derek tweeted that it had been an “incredible season with incredible humans” and it’s been clear that he really adored his Season 19 partner, Bethany Mota . Given Hough’s passion for the show, and the news that his sister Julianne Hough will return as a judge in Season 20, it would be hard to imagine him not being in the mix of things. While it seems likely he’ll continue on as a pro, and it may come down to what celebrities they cast to entice him. Fans can see many other ways he could still be involved with a slightly less time-consuming commitment as well if he needed to change things up a bit.
DWTS executive producer Rob Wade has confirmed via the Wrap that Len Goodman and Julianne will both be back judging, while Cheryl Burke is indeed departing as a pro. It will be a while yet before fans know for certain which other pros will return, though there are many that are pretty safe bets.
Buzz regarding the celebrity and pro cast for Dancing with the Stars Season 20 will start to heat up in early 2015, with a premiere date likely to come mid-March. Will Derek Hough be one of those dancing in the spring? Fans will be anxiously waiting for updates on his plans.
