Scotland’s Musical Sensation Susan Boyle Gets First Boyfriend At 53
Susan Boyle, 53, the Scottish singer who skyrocketed to fame after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent has met a special man on her recent U.S. Tour.
The shy singer met the Connecticut doctor on tour in the United States and he may soon be visiting her homeland of Scotland, reports ABC News.
“She met someone when she was in America and the idea is that he can come here. Boyle is definitely happy to have met someone,” Boyles spokesperson Nicola Phillips said.
Boyle and her new beau, a doctor, met at a hotel in Clearwater, Florida.
Boyle’s is from a small Scottish town, and she became an international sensation when she sang Les Miserables song “I Dreamed a Dream” on the popular TV show Britain’s Got Talent back in 2009. She seemed to be extremely uncomfortable on stage, but once she started to sing she silenced critics. At the time of her appearance, Boyle had said she had never been kissed.
The combination of Boyle’s timid and nervous manner and her unforgettable, soaring voice has earned her millions of fans across the globe. She has recorded a string of successful album releases. Boyle’s even received an honorary doctorate and has performed for Pope Benedict XVI. Boyle’s even wowed audiences in Las Vegas.
But for the shy entertainer, the pressures of performing were often overwhelming. The singer was treated for nervous exhaustion after her Britain’s Got Talent run focused the spotlight on her.
Talking to the newspaper the Sun, Boyle said the doctor was a “perfect gentleman,” and that they truly enjoyed each other’s company. She also added that the relationship was in its “early days,” but she hoped he would visit her in Scotland.
Boyle was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome last year. Asperger is a form of autism. Asperger syndrome is often considered a high functioning form of autism. It can lead, however, to difficulty interacting socially, repeat behaviors, and in some cases, clumsiness. Most children that are diagnosed with Asperger improve as they grow older, but social and communication difficulties may persist. Boyle also dealt with other learning disabilities as a child.
According to NBC News, the two decided to begin a relationship after a romantic dinner.
Born April 1, 1961, in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland, to Irish immigrants, Boyle was literally plucked from obscurity when she wowed the Judges on Britain’s Got Talent and she has gone on to have an extremely successful career. Hopefully she is now moving on to having a successful and happy relationship.
