St. Louis Teens Beat Man To Death With Hammers In Front Of His Wife

St. Louis teens used hammers to beat Zemir Begic to death in front of his wife. The 32-year-old Bosnian man was driving with his wife before the four teenagers struck his car and then brutally attacked him. Begic suffered injuries to his head, face, and abdomen. He was taken to the St. Louis University Hospital where he died shortly later as a result of the hammer attack injuries.

Zemir Begic pulled his wife out the way of the St. Louis teens with hammers so she would not be injured. Local police officers have detained two of the suspects in the hammer attack. The young men are reportedly 15 and 16, and a search is still ongoing for the other juvenile murder suspects.

Bosnians in the St. Louis area are now protesting the Zemir Begic hammer attack. Law enforcement officers do not believe the man was targeted for being Bosnian. Speculation has surfaced that the hammer attack could have a connection to the Ferguson riots, which began after the Michael Brown shooting Darren Wilson decision.

Zemir Begic and his wife were on their way home from a bar in the Bevo Mill area around 1:15 a.m. when the four teens with hammers surrounded his car and began banging on the vehicle. Begic reportedly got out of the car and was first “yelled at” by the St. Louis teens briefly before the hammer attack began.

Arijana Mujkanovic, Begic’s wife of just six months, said, “The last thing he did before he actually died was pull me out of the way and put himself in front of me, basically giving up his life for me.”

Suad Nuranjikovic, 49, was a passenger in Zemir Begic’s car. When asked about the four St. Louis teens and the hammer attack, he said, “I was afraid that if one of them had a gun, they were going to shot me, so I didn’t know what to do. The picture is in my head, what I saw. I don’t know why this is happening to Bosnians. We could go around and shoot people, too, but we just want peace.”

The St. Louis hammer attack was carried out by a group of black males and possibly Hispanics, according to the Post-Dispatch. Seldin Dzanonoic, 24, told the police that he was “accosted” by a group of teens with hammers on the same street about an hour before Zemir Begic was beaten to death.
