Lionel Messi Struck By Bottle During Barcelona Game
Lionel Messi was allegedly struck by a bottle during Barcelona’s victory over Valencia.
The Barcelona forward didn’t appear to have been seriously injured in the attack, which took place after Sergio Busquets had secured an injury time winner for the Catalan side.
As the Barcelona players all surrounded their goal-scoring hero and jumped on top of him, Messi was hit by a plastic bottle. The implement appeared to have been thrown from the crowd.
A club physio briefly attended to Messi to examine if he had been hurt, but the Argentinian was able to leave the field without looking as if he was in any discomfort whatsoever.
Lionel Messi was quiet throughout the match, as Barcelona struggled to impose themselves against Valencia. The match was heading to a draw until Busquets struck in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Messi did provide the cross for Neymar’s header, which was then parried by the goalkeeper only for Busquets to then rifle home the winner.
According to the Guardian, after the game, the goal-scorer admitted that Barcelona had been lucky to escape with all three points before crediting the players’ never-say day attitude, which helped to inspire them to victory.
“We were lucky in the last minute to grab the three points. A draw is never enough and we had to try until the very end.”
News of Lionel Messi being hit by a bottle comes just hours after a Deportivo La Courna fan was found dead after various altercations between their supporters and fans of Atletico Madrid erupted ahead of their match in the Spanish capital.
Both clubs have taken quick steps to try and condemn the vile attacks. However, it has already been a rather dark day for Spanish soccer and its supporters.
Meanwhile, as the Inquisitr reported earlier today, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that the English side don’t harbor any ambition to purchase Lionel Messi from Barcelona.
It had previously been alleged that Adidas might assist Chelsea with any funds that they desired to prize Messi away from Barcelona. However, Mourinho declared that any stories of his departure for England are completely false.
“My reaction is that your world changed so much that our world also changed so much. And I think, in this moment, it’s so easy to have non-truths circulating, it’s so easy that some people put news without confirming it. Obviously it’s not true.”
