Justin Bieber Loves Meghan Trainor’s ‘Mistletoe’ Cover — [Video]
It’s musical mistletoe for Justin Bieber and Meghan Trainor, who can’t sing each other’s praises enough.
Back in October, the heartthrob featured on a producer Maejor Ali remix of Trainor’s huge hit “All About That Bass.”
Now, Meghan has returned in kind by covering Justin’s 2011 Christmas fan favorite song “Mistletoe,” and earned herself a compliment from the Canadian singer.
On Sunday, Bieber tweeted “Nice job @Meghan_Trainor. #Mistletoe ),” to his 57.3 million Twitter followers, and directed them to the YouTube video of the songstress’ cover.
As Justin Bieber fans will know, the then 17-year-old pop star released the festive song in 2011 as the lead single from his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe.
A portion of the sales of that album were directed to charity.
Gossip Cop notes the song peaked at No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, but zoomed to No. 2 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart, and went on to be certified gold record in America.
Fast forward to now, Meghan debuted her country version of the song at a recent 1LIVE radio concert in Germany.
Trainor expressed her appreciation of Bieber’s hip-hop flavored vocal on “All About That Bass” when it was released.
Maejor produced the original song and a solo remix effort in August. Trainor then topped Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for over five weeks while it went viral.
Bieber and Ali’s version of “All About That Bass” blended EDM and Trap elements, with the Biebs throwing his individual twist on the hook.
“I’m all about that bass, no treble/We gonna take it to a whole ‘nother level,” the 20-year-old sang.
At the time, Ali, who is also a solo artist and has produced for Iggy Azalea, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson, and others, told Billboard he was more than happy for his pal Justin to share some of the “All About That Bass” spotlight.
“I’m excited to bring a hood yet house twist to such a catchy song,” said Ali.
Continuing, Maejor added, “I first put this song out as a production remix on my own. Not soon after it went out Meghan heard it, then Justin heard it, and shortly after they asked me to pull my version down so that the collaboration could happen. And that’s the dopest part.”
