Eva Mendes Opens Up About Daughter Esmeralda, Ryan Gosling

Weeks after giving birth, Eva Mendes has finally decided to open up a bit about her daughter, Esmeralda Amada Gosling. Mendes was grabbing headlines for weeks following the leak that she was well into her pregnancy. The privacy and then subsequent gossip was related to her famous partner, Ryan Gosling.

Although Eva is hush-hush about her relationship with Ryan, the Place Beyond the Pines actress is open about why they chose Esmeralda Amada for their daughter. When the Inquisitr originally reported on their daughter’s name, inside sources basically echoed what Mendes is now revealing: the name has a Disney connection and a family one as well.

In an interview with Violet Grey, Mendes said, “Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ and just think it’s a beautiful name. Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means “beloved” in Spanish.”

As far as giving a few details about baby Esmeralda, Mendes was very tongue in cheek.

“Everything is a struggle for her. For instance, I haven’t thrown up since the ’90s and she’s thrown up twice since we started this interview. Motherhood is cake compared to what it’s like to be a baby.”

Mendes’ brother, Juan Carlos Mendes, gave the Mirror a few details on just how Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are doing as new parents.

“They’re great parents,” shared Juan Carlos. “Ryan’s going to be a great father. He’s just such a down-to-earth, nice guy. You couldn’t ask for anything better. Of course, I’ve held the baby. We went to visit them in the hospital — the whole family was there. We’re a very tight, tight family, and Ryan, his family is the same way — very supportive.”

As for what else Gosling has cooked up, sources say not much. Although he’s still the top actor on every director’s list, it looks like the enigmatic actor will be taking a break for his most important role — father. A source said, “[Ryan’s] family is now his number one priority. He’s accomplished everything work-wise that he had hoped and this is the next step in his life.”

We still don’t know what Ryan and Eva’s daughter looks like. It’s unlikely we’ll see a photo of her before she’s out and about and walking on her own. As stated, the couple is very private, and if they managed to hide a pregnancy for months, they should have no trouble hiding Esmeralda.
