‘SNL Schoolhouse Rock’ Obama Parody Goes Viral
A SNL Schoolhouse Rock “I’m Just A Bill” parody taking aim at President Barack Obama’s illegal immigration executive order has gone viral. The political spoof is based upon the popular 1970s and early 1980s Schoolhouse Rock cartoon videos designed to teach children about how the United States government works and the history of the nation.
The Saturday Night Live Schoolhouse Rock skit attempts to explain to the “Bill” and the “Executive Order” that using the stroke of a president’s pen is not just for pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys and declaring holidays, but to turn a plan into a law.
When the executive order character in the Obama SNL Schoolhouse Rock skit is informed that he is going to be used to grant five million illegal immigrants the authority to remain in the United States without fear of prosecution, he responds simply, “Whoa.”
The Schoolhouse Rock “I’m Just A Bill” cartoon begins just like it always did way back when television sets had just 13 channels and cartoons were reserved for only Saturday mornings. The bill character explains how he goes from “sitting her on Capitol Hill” to the House of Representatives, then to the Senate, and ultimately to the desk of the president in the Oval Office.
In the SNL skit, the role of the bill is played by Kenan Thompson and the cigarette-smoking executive order is played by Bobby Moynihan. “There’s an easier way to get things done around here,” the President Obama character, played by Jay Pharoah, tells the “little school boy” in the Schoolhouse Rock skit. “I pretty much just make it happen, the executive order tells the bewildered schoolboy and the dejected-looking bill.

The bill character attempts to make his way up the many steps leading to Congress, only to tumble back down again. The little schoolboy asks the executive order character, “Is this constitutional?” The executive order replies smugly, “Yes, I create national parks or new holidays.” The Obama character interjects with, “Or grant legal status to 5 million undocumented immigrants.”
