Angelina Jolie Confirms She’s Giving Up Acting: ‘I’ve Never Been Comfortable As An Actor’
Angelina Jolie will no longer be gracing the big screen with her presence, as she revealed in a candid interview recently that she has “never been comfortable as an actor” and is giving up her career.
In the interview with DuJour magazine, Jolie opened up about her true feelings towards the world of acting, saying, “I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera.”
Even though Jolie may not want to act herself, she is all for directing movies, a role she said she feels much more comfortable in as she focuses on her latest project, Unbroken. The film is based on the real life story of Olympic runner-turned-U.S. airman Louie Zamperini.
“I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier,” she said about her new role on the other side of the camera.
Back in 2012, Angelina Jolie already hinted strongly about the fact that she would favor being a stay at home mom over acting any day of the week, as she told Britain’s Channel 4 News back then.
“I am so grateful to the job, and I have had great experiences, and I have even be able to tell stories and be a part of stories that mattered and I have done things for fun, but… if it went away tomorrow I would be very happy to be home with the children. I wake up in the morning as a mom and I turn on the news like everybody else, and I see what’s happening and I want to be part of the world in a positive way.”
For the time being, Angelina Jolie is enjoying her time working with her husband, Brad Pitt, on By the Sea, a period love story which she herself wrote and directs.
In speaking about the difficulties that come with working on set with one’s spouse, Jolie said, “The tricky thing is directing myself and directing Brad. It’s hard, dramatic material, and we’re balancing.”
