Beauty Queen Missing: Miss World Contestant From Honduras Vanishes Along With Sister!

With less than a month left for the grand finale of this year’s Miss World contest, panic has truck the nation of Honduras where a reigning beauty queen and her sister disappeared mysteriously. Miss Honduras María José Alvarado, 19, and her sister, Sofia Trinidad, went missing since Thursday after they attended a late night birthday party at a friend’s place, reports Yahoo News. Alvarado was scheduled to fly to London just two days later – but hasn’t managed to do so because she never came back after the party.

The Miss World aspirant vanished near the girls’ hometown of Santa Barbara, according to several reports. The Yahoo report adds that police officials did not initially treat the disappearance as a crime. However, an Associated Press report later confirmed the arrest of at least four people who are suspects. At the time of publishing this article, authorities were questioning the four individuals. In an interview to CNN’s local affiliate Televicentro, pageant director Eduardo Zablah confirmed that both the young women were last seen entering a vehicle.

According to Santa Barbara police chief Jose Coello, among the four people arrested are the owner of the party venue and Sofia Trinidad’s boyfriend.

According to close relatives, Alvarado was busy partying and generally having a good time with her friends and parents before she was to set off for her trip to the United Kingdom for the Miss World contest. Alvarado’s mother has appealed to the nation and asked the people to help find her daughter

“Open your hearts and understand my pain. There is an all-powerful God that sees everything, and I hope you set them free,” she said.

The Honduras girl was crowned Miss Honduras earlier this year in April and was selected to represent Honduras for this year’s Miss World pageant. She had defeated 18 other contestants to bag the opportunity to do so.

The Miss World competition is slated to start from Thursday. It is going to be a month long affair before the grand finale on December 14 when the current reigning Miss World title holder will hand over the title to a new title holder.

On the Miss World website, Alvarado has written about her ambitions and goals and what she intends to do is she wins the title. It is unclear at this stage what will happen to her participation if she indeed comes back after the pageant starts.
