Johnny Depp Delivers Slurred Drunk Speech At Hollywood Film Awards: ‘It’s One Of Those Nights’

Johnny Depp certainly wasn’t on his best form at the Hollywood Film Awards on Friday, as he could barely stand to deliver his slurred drunk presentation of the documentary award for Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.

Wasn’t on his best form? That’s the understatement of the year, as Depp, 51, took to the podium to address the packed room, starting by saying that it was the “weirdest microphone I’ve ever seen in my life,” and continuing with, “I’m not very good at this kind of thing,” as he scratched his head, fired off some swear words, and looked he’d be better off tucked up in bed with a strong cup of black coffee.

By this point, no one was under any illusions as to Johnny Depp’s state of mind, or more to the point, state of inebriation, as the Pirates of the Caribbean star continued, “I’m going to read this thing,” referring to the teleprompter, but then went off on his own rant(s), paying personal tribute to Hollywood producer Gordon, the subject of the documentary.

Depp said, “I’ve been very, very lucky to have him in my life. He is someone I consider a great friend, an incredibly loyal friend… so you have to watch the film!”

“Yeah, there you go. What does that say?” he added.

Thankfully, Depp retained at least a morsel of dignity, as he knew that he was drunk and admitted to the crowd, “It’s one of those nights.”

Soon after Depp’s nonsensical rant speech, Rob Lowe took to Twitter, saying about the presentation, “I find the whole unprepared, ‘I don’t give a s**t, possibly wasted artist persona really, really unexciting.”

Radar Online reported in 2013 that Johnny Depp revealed back then that he had been sober for the best part of 18 months, saying about his drinking problem, “I just decided that I pretty much got everything I could out of it. I investigated wine and spirits thoroughly, and they certainly investigated me as well, and we found out that we got along beautifully, but maybe too well.”

It’s a shame that things seemed to slip for Depp, who by all accounts was doing really well towards the back end of last year to control his alcoholism, despite the fact he famously told reporters that alcohol “was always a great crutch.”
