Massive 59-Feet Whale Beaches On Central American Beach! [Photos]
Local residents from the town of Tola in the Central American country of Nicaragua were witness to a rare and amazing sight, when a massive whale beached itself on the shallow waters of a nearby beach in the early hours of Friday morning. According to Yahoo! News, the whale was stranded on the beach till sundown on Friday. The beach, locally known as Popoyo Beach, is a white sandy beach, quite popular among locals.
After noticing the helpless whale on the shore, a large group of tourists and local residents started making efforts to get the large mammal back to the sea. A group of over 50 people made active efforts to somehow get the whale to safety, reports RTE. However, the massive whale, measuring nearly 59 feet in length and weighing several thousand tons, was simply too large for them to move without proper equipment. Local residents notified the Nicaraguan Environment Ministry to seek help from them to rescue the whale.
Meanwhile, the group of people gathered at the beach tried several methods to somehow get the whale back into the water. They had to abandon their efforts by sundown though with many people left simply exhausted.
The area where the huge whale has beached is located far away from the country’s capital Managua, which is nearly 70 miles (111 kilometers) away. The coast of Nicaragua sees lots of whale activity during this time of the year. However, it is rare for the whales to get close to the beach and end up being stranded.
Authorities from the Nicaraguan Environment Ministry have reached the beach where the whale remains stranded. It’s been over 24 hours since the mammal has been stranded there, and authorities are discussing several strategies to help the whale survive.
While the animal stranded on the beach is a whale for sure, they still have not managed to figure the actual species it belongs to. According to several people, however, it is a humpback whale. If that is indeed the case, this is a particularly large specimen because humpback whales are usually between 40 and 50 feet long.
Local residents will be praying that the whale is eventually rescued because it would be a bigger problem if the animal dies on the beach.
