Johnny Depp Was Jack Sparrow Drunk At Hollywood Film Awards
Johnny Depp is not someone who usually shows up at award shows, and he presents at them even less. So if the chance is there for him to be on stage at the Hollywood Film Awards and present, then the organizers are going to let him.
Even if he’s as drunk as Captain Jack Sparrow.
On the evening of Friday, November 14, Depp took to the stage and was set to honor longtime Hollywood film agent and producer Shep Gordon, per Variety. Depp went up there and proceeded to stumble back and forth at the microphone while slurring his words and smiling a little too wide.
He tried making it through what was on the teleprompter, and tried to get past the fact that there was this “weird” microphone in front of him. Popsugar remarked about how no one seemed appalled, but Depp ended up getting the crowd to laugh.
Finally, he got himself together and simply stated, “Okay, I’m going to read this thing.”
Of course, that didn’t make things any better, as he slurred his words, squinted at the teleprompter, and would go off on tangents about Gordon and other things.
Bringing even more laughter was when Depp would drop a few curse words that couldn’t be heard due to them being censored. Once the sound would come back, the crowd would laugh hysterically and Depp had his hand over his mouth while he giggled to himself.
At times, the camera would pan out to the crowd and catch a glimpse of Gordon, who some thought might end up being angry or embarrassed. That was the furthest thing from the truth. It seemed as if he appreciated it more than anything, and loved watching Depp try to make it through his little speech.
Gordon is the subject of a new documentary called Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon from Mike Myers. He was being honored at the awards show, and who else can say that they’ve been celebrated in a public forum by a drunken Johnny Depp?
Backstage, Mike Myers wasn’t mad at Depp either. He was asked how he felt about the star’s drunken presentation, and one reporter tweeted that Depp’s intro at the Hollywood Film Awards was “very rock n’ roll.”
Yes. Yes, it was. It was also hilarious, and one that will always be remembered since you won’t find Johnny Depp on many award show stages presenting or even accepting awards he’s won.
