It’s time to throw all of those South Park cancellation rumors out the window as Comedy Central confirmed on Wednesday that the show will be sticking around for a long time to come.
According to the cable station the Trey Parker and Matt Stone created South Park has been renewed through the 2016 season. The 15th season of South Park completed it’s run on Wednesday with a controversial nod to the Penn State Sex Abuse Scandal that has been dominating much of the news lately.
In a joint statement the shows creators said:
“South Park is a blast and we can’t wait to make more.”
Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless added:
“The collective genius of Matt and Trey knows no bounds. Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight South Park fans, and that includes all of us here at Comedy Central. We’re thrilled that the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman will continue through 2016.”
Are you still a fan of the show that debuted in 1997 and has brought with it years of attacks on everyone from Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology to Kanye West and Tiger Woods ?
It will be interesting to see what pop cultural events happen over the next five years and to witness how Matt Stone and Trey Parker managed to turn those events into Comedy Central gold time and time again.
