‘Criminal Minds’ Spoilers: Flashbacks To Young Gideon And Rossi
Ready to see Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds again? If so, there’s some good news about an upcoming episode of Season 10, as TV Guide has reported that Episode 13 will be flashing back to the early days of the Behavioral Analysis Unit.
Ben Savage (Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World) will be guest starring as a young Gideon when Criminal Minds flashes back to the early days of the BAU in the ’70s, when Gideon and Rossi first started out, and the episode is being described as a “love letter to fans.” To make it extra special, the episode, which is scheduled to air in January, is written by executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer and series star Kirsten Vangsness. With the show in its tenth season and having aired its two-hundredth episode, why not take a chance to show some appreciation for its fans — and what better way than with a look into the past?
So how will these flashbacks connect to present day? The case is going to force Rossi to remember a case he and Gideon had worked on in the ’70s, and Robert Dunne will be back to play young Rossi. (Dunne appeared in the Criminal Minds Season 8 episode, “The Fallen.”) As Messer told TV Guide, this isn’t “a typical episode.”
“I’ve wanted to go back to how the BAU all started and now being in Season 10, it feels like it’s time. I’m really excited about it to show our heroes from the beginning in the bomb shelter in Quantico. [Rossi’s] memory drives us into the flashback, but it’s also very reflective for the whole cast.”
While Gideon has been mentioned since Mandy Patinkin left the show in the second episode of Season 3, this is going to be the first time the character has been seen onscreen. Following his departure, Joe Mantegna joined the show as Rossi.
There’s still an entire holiday break to get through before that episode is even scheduled to air, but TV Guide has also shared a sneak peek of Morgan and Savannah in this week’s Criminal Minds episode, “Hashtag,” which will see the team dealing with an UnSub who is targeting people who have a large social media following. Watch a sneak peek about the case below.
This is a last minute case, and it interrupts Morgan and his girlfriend’s plan for a vacation, but he’s not the only one busy with work in the relationship. She hasn’t packed and he knows it’s because she doesn’t think they’ll make their vacation. He tries to convince her otherwise, but she’s a “realist.” “I’ve gotten my hopes up too many times,” she explains. Will they make that vacation? Or could they end up following the same path as another profiler’s relationship? As the Inquisitr previously reported, Hotch and Beth are breaking up and Rossi will be playing wingman.
Criminal Minds Season 10 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
