Goodnight Jelena: Justin Bieber Unfollows Selena Gomez On Instagram
Jelena devotees, the fat lady has sung. Justin Bieber has unfollowed ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez on Instagram.
Internet chatter suggests fans on both sides feel this is a final parting for the famously on-off pair, especially after Selena’s recent burn of her ex-boyfriend on her “The Heart Wants What It Wants” song and video released last Thursday.
The Biebs’ Instagram unfriending took place on Wednesday (Nov. 12), some time after he posted an Instagram video showing him and a new shoulder-length coiffed Kendall Jenner having a laugh over a coffee date.
Justin captioned his video, “Cute little coffee cup.” During the clip, the 19-year-old beauty squealed in delight as he put on a baby voice before Kendall delivered the punchline by holding up an Expresso cup while giggling.
It’s perhaps unlikely the Canadian’s former longtime love would see the joke.
Selena unfollowed Justin on Instagram on October 1, some hours after returning alone to Los Angeles from their Paris Fashion Week trip.
During that jaunt, the “Confident” singer took Kendall to dinner. A tabloid later claimed the former Disney starlet knew nothing of the pals’ meet, but that is only a rumor.
Just one day before (September 29), Justin, 20, and Selena, 22, were seen not talking to each other at St. Maartens airport in the Caribbean where they departed for Paris.
Shortly after her video debuted on November 6, Selena sat down with Ryan Seacrest and confirmed the unflattering portrayal of the male in her video represented Justin.
During their chat, she also claimed her post-Coachella Instagram unfollow of Kendall and her sister Kylie after their festival hangout in April wasn’t over a feud.
“We were never not friends,” she told Seacrest on the radio show, adding that she made a decision to only follow fans on Instagram and “didn’t realize it [her Jenners unfollow] would start so much stuff.”
A video of the Latina singing Happy Birthday to Kendall with Cara Delevingne and friends during Jenner’s recent 19th celebrations a few weeks ago seems to confirm this.
Fast forward to this weekend, on November 8, Justin and Selena fought on Instagram.
In reply to Selena’s “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” Justin posted an Instagram picture which read, “Sometimes love isn’t a feeling but a choice.”
The Biebs seems to be saying: Love is a choice, and Selena exercised her choice to enter into a relationship with him every time they reunited.
How many times was that?
By way of seeming response, Selena posted a split photo of herself and her video leading man, actor Shiloh Fernandez.
There was no caption, but none was needed.
During her Seacrest interview, Selena revealed, “I think he [Justin] was a little jealous of the video guy at first.”
So, it appears Justin is angry, frustrated or has given up on communicating — or possibly reuniting — with Selena and they are probably not talking.
And, after the starlet’s incendiary Seacrest interview, debut single and video, which, was held back this year while the couple went back and forth; is anyone surprised?
Beneath the PR (“He thought it was beautiful“), a definitive distancing was being sold as something blameless, even selfless, but was likely motivated partly by something less so.
Meanwhile, the “Home To Mama” singer attended a service at the Hillsong Church in New York City with Kendall and mutual pal Hailey Baldwin on Sunday, November 9.

The pop star has attended a slew of church services since late October and his breakup with Selena, and is receiving religious guidance from his friend, Pastor Carl Lentz, who is based at Hillsong Church NYC in Montclair, New Jersey.
Justin also dropped by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Bible study session on Saturday, before his Sunday church visit.
On Monday, the singer posted an Instagram pic of himself writing in a journal, which MTV noted revealed text on working through anxiety issues.
Justin’s caption, “The old is gone the new is here” #workinprogress,” is a bible quote taken from 2 Corinthians 5:17. It reads,
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” and refers to letting go of old, harmful attitudes for a new, spiritual perspective.
It seems Justin’s Instagram unfollow of Selena is part of the clearing of the past.
Goodnight Jelena.
