Hollywood Starlets Alyssa Milano And Olivia Wilde Proudly Pose For Breastfeeding Photos
Famous Hollywood starlets Alyssa Milano and Olivia Wilde are two celebrities who have recently posed in pictures breastfeeding their babies and bringing public breastfeeding again to the forefront. Gisele Bündchen started the trend last year when the supermodel glamorously posed for and posted a picture on Instagram while breastfeeding her superbaby daughter Vivian, whose dad is football star Tom Brady.
The picture showed Bündchen getting her hair, nails and makeup done as she breastfed her child. Although the photo brought attention to breastfeeding, the picture also received a lot of negativity. The photo was criticized on many levels of media (Denise Albert of TheMoms.com said on Good Morning America, “I think breastfeeding is a very personal thing and for her to put this on Instagram while she’s getting her hair and makeup done is a little outrageous, and I think obnoxious”).
Alyssa Milano paid homage to the Gisele photo by posting on her Facebook page, reported by Yahoo.com, a photo of her breastfeeding her daughter, Elizabella Dylan. In the same Gisele-inspired post, Milano wrote “First day back at work!” She also has a son Milo, 3 with husband David Bugliari. She tagged the photo “#blessed.”
Last month, Alyssa shared another breastfeeding selfie on Instagram accompanied by a quote from a famous Czech writer, Milan Kundera, that described the breastfeeding experience. “‘Ah, the joy of suckling! She lovingly watched the fishlike motions of the toothless mouth and she imagined that with her milk there flowed into her little son her deepest thoughts, concepts, and dreams.”
Olivia Wilde also broke barriers with a picture of her nursing her son Otis in the September issue of Glamor magazine. Wilde, who gave birth to her son with fiancé Jason Sudeikis in April, had this to say to Access Hollywood about her photo shoot experience.
“Being shot with Otis is so perfect because any portrait of me right now isn’t complete without my identity as a mother being a part of that. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing. I don’t know, now it feels like Otis should always be on my breast. It felt like we were capturing that multifaceted woman we’ve been discussing — that we know we can be. You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed. [But] I mean, I certainly don’t really look like that when I’m [typically] breastfeeding. And there’s usually a diaper involved.”
Other famous starlets who are advocates and have publicly breastfed are Mayim Bialik, Beyonce, Alicia Silverstone, Gwen Stefani, Miranda Kerr and Selma Hayek — and the list will continue to grow as breastfeeding in public becomes the social norm and articles like this are no longer written on the subject.
