Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” music video has racked up to 9 million views on YouTube in the matter of just a day, as of writing. However, Swift have now followed up the success of her latest single with a free interactive game app that allows fans to be placed inside the mansion set within the music video.
The app, which is available via iOS and Android, allows the fan to interact with the Swift’s fictitious world by tapping on their screens or moving their mobile devices in any direction, users of the “American Express Unstaged Taylor Swift Blank Space Experience App” can follow characters, explore rooms within the mansion and play with objects, during which the plot unfolds as it would in the regular music video.
Joseph Kahn, the director of the music video and the interactive app told Mashable , “I had to direct it more like a stage show than a music video so the audience can choose any way they want to look; we had to create reasons for them to turn their head or look up or look down.”
You able to explore six rooms in order to obtain collectible objects. In total there are 40 collectibles in all, each numbered 1 through 41, the number 40 is skipped. Each room is captured in 360 degrees, controlled via touchscreen or accelerometer. Users are allowed to share their experiences via social media.
In addition to the interactive gameplay, developed by Radical Media, users can also view additional behind-the-scene videos and purchase Taylor Swift’s latest album and concert tickets.
Recently, Taylor Swift made the decision to remove her albums from Spotify.
According to TechCrunch , Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, posted a long response to the controversy today, along with a defense of his service.
He writes that Taylor Swift was on track to pull in $6 million this year for her own catalogue “before she pulled her catalog.” Of course, her new album 1989 is currently pulling in around $12 million per week. Nielsen SoundScan says it broke the record for the biggest debut week of the year, selling 1.287 million copies.
