Meghan Trainor: Five Fun Facts About The ‘All About That Bass’ Singer

Meghan Trainor is “no size 2”, but she’s quite possibly the hottest singer on the planet right now. Her hit song, All About That Bass, didn’t just dominate the charts this year. It also successfully promoted a healthy, body positive message that inspired millions of fans around the world. Meghan Trainor’s success, which happened almost overnight, had people flocking over to Google to learn more about the popular performer.

If you’re one of those people, then you’re in luck! Here is your chance to learn a few things about the All About That Bass singer. Here are five fun facts about Meghan Trainor.

1. Meghan wrote All About That Bass

At age 20, Meghan has already written one of the hippest and most successful songs of the decade. Growing up in a musical family, Meghan’s been writing songs since she was 11, so songwriting isn’t something new for her. Unlike many of Trainor’s colleagues, who often hire dozens of writers to churn out regurgitated lyrics and tired chord progressions, Meghan Trainor’s song, which was co-written with Grammy-award winning Kevin Kadish, is – yes – repetitive, but has a more meaningful message than most pop songs this year.

2. She doesn’t hate skinny people, contrary to popular belief

Meghan Trainor’s song inevitably had a few people screaming unfair! The song has been accused by some as discriminating against skinny people. However, in an interview with The Guardian‘s Caroline Sullivan, who asked her if skinny girls had the “right junk,” Meghan gave them a hearty shout-out, saying “[S]kinny girls sure do. Any body type is beautiful. It’s all about loving what you got and rocking.”

When asked if she’s been getting hate for “shaming” thin women, Meghan reveals that she is constantly on the receiving end of criticism, but says she has nothing but love for skinny gals.

“Yeah, I’m still getting flak. It’ll come for as long as the song lives, but for the most part people are relating to the self-acceptance part of it, which is amazing, because that was my point.”

3. Meghan Trainor almost became a country singer

Yep, that’s right! Trainor almost didn’t become the pop star she is right now. Originally planning to become a country singer and songwriter, Meghan used to play with her family members when she was a teenager. Imagine if All About That Bass was country? It’ll probably sound something like this.

4. She is a huge T-Pain fan!

You would expect Meghan to be the girly, wholesome personality in front of the cameras, but apparently, the young musician doesn’t shy away from admitting her love for rap – especially T-Pain’s rap. In a Rolling Stone interview, Meghan Trainor discusses her fan encounter with T-Pain.

“[And] T-Pain called me on the phone: He didn’t know who I was, but he said he wanted to do the remix. I am such a big T-Pain fan, I was trying so hard not to cry. I’d love to write with him – I think we’d write a smash.”

5. She wrote her first song for her aunt and uncle

Meghan wrote her first song when she was 11, using a computer her family bought her for that very purpose. In the same Rolling Stone interview, Trainor revealed the details behind her very first masterpiece.

“It was for my aunt and uncle. They got married when I was 11. My uncle is from Trinidad – we went there on a family vacation. We took my aunt, who was young – around 21 – so she could babysit us. This carnival performer on a truck jumped down and danced with my aunt. Apparently, I walked up to them, at age seven, and said, “You should get her number, she’s totally single.” They went on a date, and now they’re happily married with three babies. I wrote new lyrics to “Heart and Soul” on the piano and played it for them at a party.”

Meghan Trainor is set to have her very first tour in February of next year, beginning with Vancouver and ending in Nashville, Tennessee.
