WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin seemingly always pops up in wrestling news whether he’s trying to be newsworthy or not. On a recent edition of the Steve Austin Show , the WWE hall of famer said something that was very interesting regarding a return to the WWE for one more match at WrestleMania 31.
If you’ve been watching Monday Night RAW over the past several weeks, then you already know that WWE has been promoting Austin’s weekly podcast on every show. Furthermore, WWE has drastically increased the amount of Steve Austin-related merchandise that is available on WWEShop.com, which is a big sign that Austin and WWE have come to terms on some sort of deal.
On a fan call-in edition of the Steve Austin Show , one of the fans asked Austin about WWE promoting his podcast and about the increase in merchandise on the WWE’s website, and wondered if this meant Austin would be returning to the ring for next year’s WrestleMania 31 in Santa Clara, California.
Austin responded to the fan with the following.
“I’m really, really happy right now with the schedule that I’m keeping. I just got done shooting 30 days of ‘Redneck Island,’ I’ve got 6 more days off and then we’re rolling right into production on ‘Broken Skull Challenge,’ I’m going to have about two months where I go down to south Texas for deer season and manage my deer herd, and then I have a project on the down-low that I can’t talk about that we’re going to roll into in February. So I don’t see that I have time in my schedule or the desire to climb back in the ring and start taking bumps again.”
WrestleMania 31 takes place on March 29, and the project scheduled for February that Austin has to “keep on the down-low” may just be his comeback to WWE, either for one more match or some type of other storyline leading into WrestleMania 31. But if Austin returns to WWE in February, fans may not accept anything less than Austin competing in a match at the big event in March.
It’s been rumored for several months that Steve Austin may be set to take on John Cena at WrestleMania 31, and Cena even expressed his desire to have a match with Austin when he appeared on Austin’s podcast back in February.
“I think maybe you should be like ‘Hey, Vince [McMahon] I sat down with Cena and he was telling me that you have an event at the beginning of April, WrestleMania 31.’”
Austin laughed at Cena’s statement, then Cena continued.
“Thank you so much for having me on your show. I consider you an inspiration. I consider what you’ve done a benchmark that everyone should shoot for. I consider you a mentor. Even though I wish we had more time together, I truly wish we had time in the box to dance because I think it would be the world’s greatest attraction.”
As of right now, it looks like Cena is scheduled to lose to Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble event in January. Nobody knows who Cena’s “dance partner” will be at WrestleMania 31, and it could very well be “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
