‘General Hospital’ Cast Changes Ahead? Buzz Swirls Regarding Britt, Sonny, And Johnny
Could some big General Hospital cast changes be ahead? There have been some significant additions to the Port Charles crew lately, but now there is buzz that more changes are on the way. Should fans brace themselves for some big shake-ups?
According to Daytime Confidential, Kelly Thiebaud may be leaving the role of Dr. Britt Westbourne. It is known that her contract is up soon, and sources seemingly indicate that the show and the actress couldn’t come to terms. At this point, however, ABC and General Hospital have yet to confirm Thiebaud’s departure, and the actress hasn’t indicated that the buzz is true.
Thiebaud and Bryan Craig, who plays Morgan Corinthos on the show, are a couple off-screen. However, it would seem that Craig isn’t going anywhere in terms of the show. There is also talk about Maurice Benard’s contract and whether Sonny Corinthos will be sticking around Port Charles.
Daytime Confidential details an ABC Soaps in Depth report that Benard says his contract is up in December. At this point, though, he’s talking with the show about continuing. He indicates that he’s happy with General Hospital, and his negotiating strategy regarding sticking with the soap is simple.
Benard adds, “I’ve gotta be honest: If we’re going to sign, let’s just do it.”
While the show may have been willing to let Kelly Thiebaud go when it comes to the role of Britt, General Hospital fans would expect the show to work harder to keep Benard.
The actor has been in the role of Sonny Corinthos almost continuously since joining General Hospital in 1993, though he has done some other projects along the way as well. Could he be ready to take another break or leave the role all together? Fans will have to wait and see on this one.
The other General Hospital casting rumor garnering buzz is that Brandon Barash may be returning to the role of Johnny Zacchara. A peek at his Twitter page would seemingly indicate that while he’s kept busy lately, he may well be in a good place to return to his former role on General Hospital. Though the rumor is that Barash will head back to the show, so far both the actor and the show are keeping quiet on the rumors.
With Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller joining General Hospital after years on The Young and the Restless, fans are already adjusting to the big changes. If Kelly Thiebaud indeed leaves the role of Britt, would they recast? Many doubt they would at this point. In addition, while the show did just recast the role of Jason Morgan with Miller, it’s doubtful they would even consider such a thing at this point, if ever, with the character of Sonny.
