Victim Identified In Case Of Face-Eating Cannibal Killed In Wales
The victim of a cannibal killed by police in Wales last Thursday has been identified as 22-year-old Cerys Yemm. Ms. Yemm was brutally murdered by 34-year-old Matthew Williams, in what authorities say was possibly a drug-fueled episode that culminated in Williams eating part of Yemm’s face.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Williams and Yemm met for the first time on the night of the grisly cannibal murder. The suspect, who had only been out of prison for a few weeks, invited Yemm back to his room at the Sirhowy Arms Hotel, located in a South Wales town called Argoed.
Sometime after their arrival at the hotel, security broke into the room to remind that policy forbid him from having girls in his room. They reportedly found Williams had eaten half of Yemm’s face, as well as one of her eyeballs. Police were called to the scene, and they incapacitated Williams by tasering him. The man later died, apparently from the tasering.
According to the Sunday Express, witnesses have come forward to claim that Williams had a mix of drugs in his system at the time he killed Yemm. He also allegedly had an ounce of the drug Mephedrone, also known as miaow miaow, on his person.
Williams had apparently been known as having a tendency for violent acts among those who knew him. His recent stint in jail, for which he served two-and-a-half years out of a five-year sentence, had been for the beating of a former girlfriend, the Daily Mail reported.
A friend of Yemm named Shelly Davies said the following about the incident.
“I just keep thinking of how frightening and painful it would have been for her. I feel sick to my stomach, it’s horrific to think that one person can inflict some much brutality onto another.”
William Graham, a member of the Welsh Assembly, had this to say about the cannibal killing.
“It is now clear that Mr. Williams posed a risk to the public and I am extremely concerned that monitoring appears to have been deemed unnecessary. If true, a wider inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his release is urgently required.”
Some believe that instances of people eating other human beings are becoming more common around the world. Do you think this incident of a cannibal killed in South Wales is a rare occurrence, or part of a growing global trend?
