Those predictions turned out to be true Tuesday. Democrats have long been ramping up for the 2014 election, trying to rally democrats during campaigning for fear of losing control in congress. Tuesday in the 2014 elections Republicans gained the Senate.

It has been an exciting night. The Republican party won the three seats they were favored to win in Montana, West Virginia, and South Dakota. The party unseated Sen. Mark Warner (R-AR), Mark Udall (D-CO), and also won an open seat in Iowa with candidate Joni Ernst. Hot Air reports that Thom Tillis has defeated Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) in an upset in North Carolina.

“For too long, this administration has tried to tell the American people what is good for them and then blame somebody else when their policies didn’t work out,” Mitch McConnell, who is expected to become the next Senate majority leader, said in a victory speech.

House Speaker John Boehner said he is “humbled by the responsibility the American people have placed with us.”

“But this is not a time for celebration,” he said. “It’s time for government to start getting results and implementing solutions to the challenges facing our country, starting with our still-struggling economy.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has controlled the chamber since 2007, congratulated Republicans on their victory.

“The message from voters is clear: they want us to work together,” Reid said. “I look forward to working with Senator McConnell to get things done for the middle class.”

Senator Mitch McConnell during his victory speech said, “It is time to go in a new direction. It is time to turn this country around. And I will not let you down.”

The results of the 2014 elections are a big change from what was predicted at the beginning of this year. Back in January only 44 percent felt this may happen, although by July these numbers had jumped to 54 percent. Only 24 percent of Americans in the 2014 election polls believed the GOP would not take the Senate majority, while 22 percent thought it was very likely and only four percent said it was not likely at all.

Why has the 2014 election results favored the Republican party so heavily? The Inquisitr reported that Americans believe the GOP does a better job at bringing back jobs and are leading in dealing with hot issues like the Islamic State and Ebola.

Whether it was the American people letting their dissatisfaction being heard in the 2014 elections or democrats not showing up to vote, the Republican party now have control of the Senate and both houses of congress.
