Game of Thrones fans can feast their eyes on a truly spoilerific bit of leaked video from the can’t-get-here-soon-enough Season 5 of the hit HBO fantasy. If you’ve read the books, you know what’s coming; if you haven’t, you may be wondering why these men are on fire.

Best-in-class Game of Thrones news source Winter Is Coming hipped us to this new snippet of video from the ongoing filming of the fifth season in Spain. In it, we see a number of men, well, on fire. And it’s not green fire, so we’re betting it’s dragon fire.
As you know — if you’re caught up enough to be reading this spoiler-filled missive, that is — there’s only one person in the Game of Thrones world that has dragons, and that’s Danaerys Targaryen. Season Four saw two of the most powerful weapons in Game of Thrones locked away as they had become too dangerous to allow to roam free. The third, though, was the largest and the most fearsome of the dragons, Drogon.
Drogon escaped.
Drogon is why those men are on fire.
If what we’re seeing hews closely to the Song of Ice and Fire series, we’re likely seeing the return of Drogon to Danaerys’ kingdom — on the day of her wedding. If you’ve been paying attention at all, you know that weddings don’t tend to go very well in the Game of Thrones world, and this instance won’t be all that different.
Who is Danaerys getting married to? Well, let’s just say that the Mother of Dragons discovers over the course of the season that it takes more than the love of the people and a few dragons to truly rule a kingdom. Danaerys has to make some sacrifices along the way, and a marriage of convenience is one of them.
Needless to say, the appearance of Drogon wasn’t a planned part of the wedding festivities. And Charred Mesquite Unsullied likely wasn’t on the menu. So, what goes wrong? For that, you’ll have to wait and see, because today’s leak also shows us something else about the next season of Game of Thrones: it deviates significantly from the books.
Those who’ve read the books will be surprised to know that both Jorah Mormont and Tyrion Lannister are in attendance at Danaerys’ wedding. That’s a big change from the books, where the two are still on their way to meet up with Danaerys. It’s possible, then, that one or both of the two will not survive what we’re just gonna go ahead and call the Hot Wedding.
Who knows where it will go? All we know for now is that several Unsullied catch some dragon breath to the face and Danaerys winds up with a bloody dress. Whose blood? Again, who knows?
Like we said, Game of Thrones Season 5 can’t get here soon enough.
