Sharon Osbourne Reveals 16-Year Battle With Depression [Video]
Sharon Osbourne, 62, shocked her co-hosts and the viewers of her talk show The Talk, on Monday, revealing her private and long battle with depression.
Co-host Aisha Tyler, who worked with Wayne Brady for many years on the popular TV show, Whose Line Is It Anyway, brought up Brady’s battle with depression. As per Daily Mail, Tyler spoke of how she is so proud of Brady for speaking out and sharing his personal struggle with the disease.
Tyler said, even though she worked with Brady, she isn’t surprised to hear about his battle with depression because she said he puts so much of himself into his work, and gives so much to other people, and he gets home at night to his daughter, and he is an “amazingly devoted father,” so it’s easy to see at the end of the day he might not have anything else for himself. She continues to express her opinion regarding Brady’s admission to MSN.
“I’m so proud of him for coming out and saying this because people with depression, if you have the bravery, if you can do it, it’s so important to speak up because so many people suffer in silence and they feel alone…
“So many people are going through this. We have to destigmatise it and make sure everyone knows it’s a disease like anything (else)…”
It was at that moment that Sharon Osbourne interrupted Tyler, raised her hand in a gesture of admission and proclaims that she has fought depression and been on medication to treat it for the past sixteen years.
Aisha exclaimed, “Really??!! You never talked about that!!”
“Nobody’s ever asked,” Osbourne responded.
Sharon went on to describe how her life has been affected by depression, as revealed by MSN.
“Some days are better than others, and some days you feel like you just want to pull the sheets over your head and just stay in that bed and not do a damn thing – except rot.”
According to Daily Mail, Sharon Osbourne has faced several medical scares in addition to her bouts of depression. Sharon was diagnosed with aggressive colon cancer in 2002.
Sharon’s rocker husband, Ozzy Osbourne, was extremely concerned about his wife’s health, as reported by Daily Mail.
“She had three chemotherapies a month, and after nine months the side-effects got worse and worse. She was having seizures…I thought I was going to lose her. I thought it was all going to be too much for her. Then at the end of nine months the doctor said, ‘She’s going to need nine months to get over the chemotherapy.'”
She survived, and is cancer free. However, in 2012, Sharon underwent a double mastectomy fearing breast cancer. Ozzy has stood by his wife through it all.
“Sharon is the strongest woman I know.”
