Elle Macpherson certainly looks amazing for 50, and that is mainly down to the fact she looked after herself properly when she was in her 40s, as she revealed in an interview last week with Ocean Drive.
In the interview, Elle revealed that, thanks to giving up alcohol and drugs (referring to aspirin!) before hitting 50, she was prepared, at least physically, for the challenges that came with being half a century old.
In her own words, “In my 40s, I started to focus on health and wellness. I stopped drinking ‘alcohol] and taking any drugs — even aspirin — and I began really cleaning out my system.”
Her fitness regime also included daily workouts, including lots of yoga and an organic alkaline, low-carb diet.
“By the time I hit 50, I didn’t feel any sort of plateau physically, and it didn’t feel like a shock emotionally either. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’d better get myself together before I turn 50.’ It was more like I was reborn,” she said.
As far as the diet goes, Elle Macpherson admitted that she eats mainly , “vegetables, a little bit of fish, not much protein, and no coffee or alcohol.”
In terms of her health, Elle went on to explain that as soon as she switched to the new diet she saw immediate improvements, across the board.
“I noticed changes in just two weeks,” said Macpherson. “I had more vitality, my skin wasn’t dry. I stopped craving sugar, my mood stabilized, everything became more balanced. A welcome byproduct was losing weight around my middle.”
The alkaline diet, which is very popular these days among Hollywood celebs such as Victoria Beckham, includes primarily fresh green vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, spices, seeds, and nuts. The theory is that eating a diet high in alkaline-producing foods minimizes inflammation by reducing acid buildup in our bodies.
When it comes to anti-aging treatments, which Elle is clearly great at, she revealed that drinking lots of water is vital, as is exfoliating and moisturizing daily.
Elle Macpherson is one of the few stars today who hasn’t had any kind of plastic surgery to keep her looking stunning. As she said to Ocean Drive, “‘Beauty at every age’ is such a boring cliché, but beauty is not just reserved for youth.”
