WWE News: Backstage Update On Undertaker’s New Role In WWE
The reason why WWE’s developmental system, NXT, is so dominant can be put on the heads of Triple H and the people he employs to be trainers. Bill DeMott, who worked with the resurgence of Tough Enough a few years ago, is one of the head trainers in NXT. Nothing but good things are said about DeMott. Others include Billy Gunn, Dusty Rhodes, Gerald Briscoe, Norman Smiley, Terry Taylor and Steve Keirn are the notable trainers in NXT.
These folks help mold the future of WWE. With their hundreds of years in combined experience, the WWE did the proper thing by placing these successful retired-superstars alongside NXT performers. However, a new trainer is now coming around the WWE Performance Center to give his two-cents on the wrestlers.
The Undertaker is officially a part-time trainer in NXT. He will be dropping by the Performance Center from time-to-time and offering his suggestions. There is an update on Undertaker’s actual role in the company, as new developments occurred in the past 24 hours.
“Apparently the deal is that Taker will be able to pick and choose the dates that he works and it won’t be anything like a regular full-time role. The idea is for him to come in, give NXT talents some pointers and help drive the “WWE etiquette” into developmental talents.
“Another reason is that WWE wants up-and-coming talents to know what is expected of them if and when they reach the main roster, and they feel Undertaker is the perfect guy to handle that.”
Just like the update notes, they want to teach the newcomers the “WWE” way of going about things. There isn’t a more-perfect human to teach them those lessons, than the Undertaker. Having signed with the company in 1990, after a mediocre run in World Championship Wrestling as “Mean” Mark Callous.
Undertaker never left Vince McMahon and the WWE, like many did during the 1990’s and beyond. Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and a few other notable wrestlers jumped ship to WCW, because Ted Turner was able to pay them more guaranteed money for less dates. Regardless of the insane schedule and less-popular money amount, the Undertaker stayed put and portrayed his worth as the ultimate “WWE guy.”
It’s not official, but the WWE may use Taker as a person involved in WWE tryouts. For example, when Jim Ross was with creative, he often tried to recruit superstars in the Independent territories to come to WWE. Undertaker knows talent when he sees it, so that would be a great opportunity for both parties to really find the hidden gems in professional wrestling. WWE’s biggest acquisition might not be Kenta, Sami Zayn or Adrian Neville, but rather the Undertaker making sure those young guns become the future of the business.
