Netflix Confirms ‘Orange Is The New Black’s’ Vee Will NOT Return For Season 3
Despite recent reports, Netflix has confirmed to BuzzFeed that Lorraine Toussaint’s character Vee will not return to the third season of Orange Is The New Black.
Hours prior to this confirmation, reports hit the internet that Vee was returning, which seemed a bit far fetched. [Spoiler alert!] Vee got hit by a van in the season finale so the likelihood of her returning was slim to none unless she returned as a ghost.
According to TMZ, Toussaint was scheduled for filming in New York, but apparently that’s not true. In fact, Toussaint is on another show on ABC called Forever, so it seems like she’s a bit busy even if Vee would have survived the blunt hit.
Netflix denies this report saying, “She is not going to be in Season 3.”
If you don’t remember Vee then you might have been asleep for all of Season 2. Vee came on board as Red’s nemesis, who wound up putting everyone’s favorite (former) chef in the hospital towards the end of the season. Upon Vee’s arrival she already had an inside connection to Tasty, being her pseudo-mother.
Interestingly enough, this wasn’t her first time at Litchfield prison. When she was first at the prison years and years ago, she was the boss, so when she arrived and found herself out of sync with the politics, she made her own and segregated the prisoners, with her group reigning supreme.
Almost immediately we saw a power shift between unexpected prisoners, which made for very different but dynamic story telling about Litchfield’s pecking order. As Vee, Toussaint played her as the most vindictive and manipulative prisoner around and it seemed like she was going to make a cozy home for Season 3 until moments before the season wrapped up. While many suspected Red would get even with Vee, it was Rosa, who while dying of cancer had escaped the prison by their official truck, that had Vee meet her end.
Although Toussaint is no longer a part of Orange Is The New Black, she has posted a bit about the show over the last few weeks as she gears up promotion for her new ABC show.
