‘DWTS’: Alfonso Ribeiro And Witney Carson Talk Injury And Recovery
Fans of Dancing With The Stars know Alfonso Ribeiro has had some trouble with injuries. Last Monday, Alfonso and his partner Witney’s stellar salsa got them a nearly-perfect score of 39/40, helping them to sail to the top of the leader board by the end of the night. The victory had a price, however — Ribeiro was vocal about what he said at the time was a groin injury suffered during the show.
Ribeiro spoke to Access Hollywood about what happened and how he’s been feeling.
“It’s amazing what treatment will do. I’ve been going to my treatment all week long. It is starting to pay off and I think the biggest thing is that we’re doing a dance this week that doesn’t require me to do a fast twitch motion. So, that’s helping a ton because it’s really just allowing it to rest all week, and so I’m feeling better. I’ve got a lot of tape holding me together right now.”
Alfonso also clarified that he did not actually suffer a groin pull.
“It’s technically my upper leg. So, it’s not the actual groin itself. It’s my upper leg. It’s the little muscles that kind of support all balance and all of that.”
While Alfonso may be on the mend, Witney has suffered an injury of her own. Teasers for Monday’s program show the professional dancer taking a spill. When she spoke with Access Hollywood during rehearsals Thursday, however, she was clear she is still able to compete strong with her celebrity partner. The pair do face a challenge since neither of them is in top physical shape.
“I just fell on my back and it’s not as bad as you think. It’s not excruciating or anything. It’s just a little bit sore and so I’m good. But, we’re both injured.”
Even though Witney claims she’s doing ok, a video posted by E! Online Thursday revealed she may have been quite uncomfortable when the fall occurred.
“I honestly thought that one of my ribs had popped out of place. That’s how bad the pain was.”
Dancing With The Stars has a special Hallowe’en-themed show on tap for Monday night. Alfonso and Witney and the other remaining couples will do an individual dance as well as a team dance. Alfonso is the captain of #TeamCreepDuSoleil, and Bethany Mota, paired with her pro partner Derek Hough, is the captain of #TeamItsyBitsy.
For fans of Len Goodman, the exciting news is that he will be back on the judges’ panel.
Dancing With The Stars airs Monday nights at 8pm on ABC.
