WWE: Why Hell In A Cell Will Be The Match That Puts Dean Ambrose On Top Of The WWE
WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose has seemingly done everything one can do to get noticed in his young singles career. He is under 30, part of WWE’s top matches of the week, and has faced off with and beaten John Cena on a live WWE RAW. He made a heroes comeback after Seth Rollins took him out by curb stomping him through cement blocks as well. He has forced fans into liking his Stone Cold-esque character of an anti-hero who will be on your side one minute — then against you the next.
In fact, WWE believes so much in his potential star power that they made him the lead role in a new WWE Studios film called Lockdown. Literally, WWE feels they have something special in Dean Ambrose, and he will be a huge star for them for years to come, whether he is a face or heel.
It is interesting what the WWE has done with both he and Rollins. Most figured that Ambrose would be the top heel, while Rollins would be a top face for WWE. Instead, the company reversed it and put both men in characters that they normally wouldn’t be associated with playing while solo. It makes total sense for Rollins to be the good guy and Ambrose to be the bad guy… but that is why it works so well.
WWE is allowing both to be what you do not consider them, and both are excelling at this.
Now we have a potential culmination of their feud, Hell in a Cell, a match so barbaric that it has cost men years of their career. This is literal, and not just something WWE claims to make the match look better. Mick Foley was never the same after his original falls through and off of it. As he said this past Monday on RAW that he talks about his life in two different scenarios… pre-cell and after-cell.
While we cannot expect WWE to allow Ambrose and Rollins to do anything close to what Mankind and Undertaker did at King of the Ring all those years ago, we can expect WWE to allow the duo to truly go at it. The idea going into this is that it will be the rivalry ender for the two. This is potentially going to continue into Survivor Series, allowing them to have teams… but most feel the singles rivalry will be over after HIAC, at least for a while. However, due to Ambrose not being able to handle his rage when he sees Rollins, we can expect him to not take it easy on him whenever he sees him in his career.
Hell in a Cell will show off what both men are capable of. However, this is probably the best suited environment for Dean Ambrose. Most know that he has a sick character that could seriously damage anyone he comes in contact with. This in just a normal day-to-day match. Now you put him inside the cell, allowing him to be trapped with a guy and allowing anything within the walls of the cell to be used.
What is great is that each match the two have had together has been a potential match of the year candidate. Those were mostly normal matches. So now you allow them to run with a No DQ, inside a cell? That is like asking God to paint a rainbow after rain. Like you even had to ask him to.
Ambrose, before coming to WWE, worked for CZW. This was a hardcore promotion that had similar rules to the old ECW brand. The stuff we saw here could, in part, be worse than what we saw in ECW. All of these people realized the safety risk on top of it all, making it even dumber for them to do what they were doing. That is why many believe Ambrose has a ton of ideas going into this. However, we shouldn’t take anything away from Seth Rollins. He has worked with several different Independent companies. He has worked almost every style of match imaginable, and is known for taking risks in the ring.
While most find them to be calculated risks, he takes them to wow the crowd — and it usually works out well for him. Now we allow the both of them… the hardcore nightmare vs. the risk-taking superstar to go at it inside a match that has been seen as potential career enders for many.
Knowing all of this and who he is working with, Dean Ambrose could come out of this match cementing himself on top of WWE for years to come. Even in a loss, Ambrose has come out looking good. Now we are potentially seeing him win. So if he goes in and takes out Rollins at HIAC, we can expect that fans will be behind him more than ever. What he will do could be sickening, it could be a bit past PG. We saw what he could do this past Monday. Now imagine if he went further. This could literally be the time people wonder if WWE was going too far. Which would be awesome in today’s WWE. The match will certainly get people talking, and that is exactly what the company wants.
Ambrose is already loved by a large majority of people. However, he is mostly unproven as a singles competitor in WWE so far. A win this Sunday allows him to jump out of this. He clearly needs a win, but even a great performance allows him to grow his fan base. People are expecting him to wow them, which is a lot of pressure for both men.
However, if they can pull it off, this could be a match that helps the WWE. It will make people talk about them. People will tweet someone and ask, “did you see Rollins/Ambrose at #HIAC? It was #Awesome!” “@DeanAmbrose was awesome on Sunday, he and @SethRollins are the future.”
This will happen if both men can do as we all expect.
Again, this is extreme pressure. However, we have expected them to do well with their matches already, and they have done so, meaning we have no reason to think they won’t be able to do that this Sunday. The match could be a match that helps define a generation, but it also could be the time that WWE finds their next major name in Dean Ambrose. While The Lunatic Fringe has already impressed enough to get a lot of love by WWE fans, he has not yet won everyone over like a Stone Cold or Rock. Sunday will give him that opportunity in a time when WWE needs it the most.
