Assassin’s Creed Unity Preview: Vive La Révolution!

On November 11th, Ubisoft unveils the newest game in the storied Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Unity. With less than three weeks left until launch, Ubisoft has been publishing YouTube videos highlighting all of the new features of Unity, some of which will change the game and franchise forever. And video game news outlets have been in on the fun, running features in anticipation of the hot new title.

Assassin's Creed Unity
Assassin’s Creed Unity is shaping up to be the hottest game this holiday season.

In Assassin’s Creed Unity, players take control of Arno Dorian as he seeks revenge on those who wronged him by killing his father. The story, as explained by IGN, takes place in 1789 Paris on the eve of the French Revolution. Unity is also a love story as Arno, who sides with the brotherhood, tries to make his relationship work with his childhood sweetheart, Elise De LaSerre, the daughter of a Templar (the same Templar who killed Arno’s father). Talk about a “Romeo and Juliet gone awry” scenario. In his adventures, Arno will come across historical figures like the Marquis de Sade, Maximilien Robespierre, and even Napoleon Bonaparte, who will one day become Emperor of France.

In classic Assassin’s Creed fashion, Arno will take part in or at least be a witness to the events that will lead to the French Revolution. Players can expect lots of beheadings and social unrest as the citizens of France rise up against Louis XVI and initiate one of the bloodiest revolutions in world history. One thing that developer Ubisoft has done well throughout this series is marry history with their story of the Brotherhood of Assassin’s versus the Templars.

The biggest change to the series comes in the form of online multiplayer co-op, which replaces competitive multiplayer as first revealed in a previous article on The Inquisitr. In Assassin’s Creed Unity, up to four players can come together in, you know, unity, and take on assassination missions. Players can also customize their Arno’s with different skill sets (stealth, combat or parkour or a mixture of all three) and different outfits and weapon load outs. Completing assassination missions will reward players with loot chests that include new buffs, weapons and costume variations. Assassin’s Creed’s multiplayer has always been an inspired game mode, but with online co-op and character customization, the rules will change forever.

Assassin’s Creed Unity is shaping up to be one of the best games in the long-running franchise. It’s the first game built from the ground up for the new gen Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game systems, and the graphics and frame rates, even at only 900p on both systems, which has proven to be controversial in its own right, will show off the beauty and artistry that the designers at Ubisoft Montreal have put into this title.

Assassin’s Creed Unity will hit store shelves on November 11th. Are you a fan of the series? Are you looking forward to Assassin’s Creed Unity? Sound off in the comments.
