Adrianne Palicki’s Mockingbird Joins ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’: Will She Be a Permanent Team Member?
With the latest episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Adrianne Palicki has officially joined the team as Bobbi Morse, a.k.a. Mockingbird, but as Entertainment Weekly reports, there is one big difference between the TV show character and the character from the comics: she’s Lance Hunter’s ex-wife instead of Hawkeye’s wife.
Adrianne Palicki made her debut as Bobbi in this week’s episode, “Hen in the Wolf House,” and as you probably noticed she had dark hair, which the actress told EW they used to their “advantage” when it came to her being undercover, along with Simmons, in Hydra. (As you can see in the photo above, she’ll be blonde in the next episode.) Bobbi, whom Simmons thought was gunning for her, turned out to be the one to help her get out of Hydra alive once Raina sent an email revealing she was the mole. But how long will she be a member of the team? According to Palicki, that has yet to be decided.
“That is up in the air still. She is part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. In episode 206, the world turns on S.H.I.E.L.D. because Hydra poses as them and attacks the U.N. All those story lines are still going; she’s just now a part of that world.”
As mentioned above, Bobbi is Hunter’s ex-wife and he has done nothing to hide how he feels about her, and that was before she showed up to join the same team he recently joined himself with her recommendation, as it was revealed. Palicki told EW to expect a “fun dynamic” between those two.
“A little bit like a Mr. and Mrs. Smith-type thing happening. It adds a little bit of levity and comedy to some very intense situations down the line. It’s fun. Getting to paly with Nick is just so entertaining. It adds a little bit of a different dynamic t the show.”
Adrianne Palicki’s first episode also showed her interacting with Tripp and Mack, and there’s always the possibility of another love interest on TV shows. But will that play out as anything? The main point there seems to be just to show that she is no newbie when it comes to S.H.I.E.L.D. and its operatives.
“I think anything is possible with the past. It’s like that moment she has with Mack (Henry Simmons). They used to work together. They’re really old friends. What it is more than anything is to show she’s had a relationship with these people for a very long time.”
Palicki is no stranger to comic books as a fan and in other superhero themed projects, like Wonder Woman. In fact, as she told EW, she did spend time “weighing the options” of taking on this role, which can also end up being part of the Marvel movie universe.
“I’m a huge comic book fan and have been forever. My brother’s a comic book writer. Playing an action hero is always exciting, but it was scary, because I was like, ‘I will never be able to play another Marvel character if I go forward in this role.’ … The showrunners were very convincing.”
Meanwhile, The Wrap has posted photos of Adrianne Palicki in her full tactical suit (like the one above). This is the suit she’ll be wearing as her S.H.I.E.L.D. operative alter-ego, Mockingbird, and she’ll first be seen in it in the next episode since she has only mostly been seen undercover so far.
What did you think of Adrianne Palicki’s introduction as Bobbi Morse? Are you hoping she sticks around on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
