Ed Sheeran Says He Forgives Ellie Goulding For Cheating With Niall Horan

Ed Sheeran claims he has forgiven his ex-girlfriend Ellie Goulding for cheating on him with One Direction’s Niall Horan. Fans speculated that Sheeran was singing about Goulding and Horan in his song “Don’t,” which premiered before the release of Sheeran’s sophomore album on a commercial for headphones . The song features a line that seems to allude to the affair between Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan:

“I never saw him as a threat, ‘Til you disappeared with him to have s**”

Sheeran’s song also uses a clever reference to an Ellie Goulding song called “Burn,” which could also be about Niall Horan; “you were looking for a lover to burn.”

According to The Independent, Ed Sheeran recently spoke up about his ex’s fling with Niall Horan in an interview with The Sun . Ed claims he’s put his anger towards Ellie and Niall into the back of his mind, and in fact he’s using the pain Horan and Goulding caused him to fuel his songwriting.

“I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song,” Ed said. “It’s a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That’s the end of it. I’m grateful I could get a song out of it, to be honest. I don’t feel it’s about anyone anymore, I’m not attached to that. The moment you attach to someone to a song it becomes more difficult to sing every night.”

As for “Don’t” and whether it refers to Niall Horan stealing his girlfriend, Ed has basically confirmed it. He has at least admitted that the cheating tale within the song is true, which can only mean it applies to Ellie and Niall.

“The story… is 100% true. I could have gotten nastier – there was more s*** that I didn’t put in. I was seeing someone for a bit, and then they ended up physically involved with one of my friends in the same hotel that we were staying in, while I was downstairs. And I feel like: ‘Treat people how you want to be treated.’”

According to The Mirror , the track describes that Ellie left Ed to cheat with his buddy (probably Niall Horan) in the same hotel where all of them were staying. While Niall’s actions might seem cold, they’re all over it now.

Interestingly, Niall Horan and his One Direction buddies recently charted with their hit single about a similar topic titled “Steal My Girl.” Niall Horan tweeted his hopes that the song could beat out Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” but it never made it to the top.

What do you think about Niall Horan’s betrayal of Sheeran’s friendship? Should Ed really forgive Ellie and Niall, or does Niall owe his friend an apology?
