Kelly Clarkson Covers ‘Stay With Me’ With A Special Twist (VIDEO)

Kelly Clarkson performed the hit Sam Smith song, “Stay With Me” at a performance in Chicago over the weekend.

Instead of performing the song just like Sam Smith (as if she was inside of a karaoke bar), Kelly Clarkson made sure that she used her own powerful voice to put a special twist on the song that her fans in attendance thoroughly enjoyed.

Kelly Clarkson performed her cover of the chart-topping hit shortly after she performed her own hit song with a similar theme, “Don’t You Want to Stay.”

Kelly even took a few moments to point out the similarities in a hilarious way before she started singing the first verse of Sam’s song.

“I just like the word ‘stay’ in songs.”

Kelly Clarkson also pointed out that she loves the song, “Stay With Me” personally because it is “bluesy and awesome.”

Most fans and critics of her work know that Kelly Clarkson loves to sing gospel and soul songs that sound like they are from the 1960s – as well as songs that actually are from the 1960s, such as many of Aretha Franklin’s hits. Keep in mind that Kelly covered “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” on her debut album.

It is always great to hear artists cover the hit songs of other artists, especially when they are able to put their own original twists and spins on the lyrics or melodies – such as when Meghan Trainor covered Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off.”

Many fans have posted their reactions to Kelly Clarkson’s cover on Twitter and the majority of them are pleasant.
