Javier Bardem Could Be The Villain In ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’
Javier Bardem is being considered for the role of the bad guy in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.
After the fourth Pirates movie disappointed fans and critics alike, it may come as a surprise that the franchise is continuing. But bringing in the star power of Javier Bardem could be just the boost the series needs to rekindle the public’s interest.
According to The Wrap, Bardem is in “early talks” to play the villain in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, based on the word of several individuals close to the new Disney project. Neither Disney nor a representative for Javier Bardem commented on the rumors.
If Javier Bardem signs on, he’ll be joining the directing team “Kon-Tiki,” the collective efforts of Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg. Bardem will also be hopping on to a franchise that has brought in $3.7 billion worldwide since the release of the first Johnny Depp smash-hit. With or without Javier Bardem, the next Pirates project will have incredibly high expectations and is a massive priority for Disney studios.
Fans may be wondering what role Javier Bardem would take on if he did join the project. As it stands, the villain for Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is Captain Brand, a vengeful ghost who wants to make Captain Jack Sparrow suffer for the murder of his brother. Rumors have been circulating that Christoph Waltz could be filling the role of Captain Brand but Javier Bardem is the current favorite pick.
According to The Daily Mail, Pirates 5 is set to start shooting in five months in Australia. If Javier joins the cast, he could be acting alongside his wife Penelope Cruz, who appeared in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. If Cruz reprises her role, it could be interesting to see how her and Javier Bardem’s onscreen relationship unfolds.
Bardem is known for playing dark roles, such as the unflinching killer Anton Chigurh in 2007 No Country For Old Men, which earned Javier an Oscar. Bardem also played a Bond villain in 2012’s Skyfall. While it might be true that Javier Bardem is a victim of Hollywood typecasting, there’s no denying that he would be stunning in the role of an undead pirate obsessed with revenge.
