WWE News: WrestleMania 31 Main Event Matches Already Set In Stone?
It’s been a newsworthy week in professional wrestling. CM Punk was offered a contract with TNA, Randy Orton just signed a part-time contract — where weekend live events are only voluntary — and the Rock came back to the WWE on Monday Night RAW. On top of it all, the Stone Cold Steve Austin rumors got shot down by Jim Ross. An otherwise disappointing week in professional wrestling led up to this report that came from WrestleZone.
Around October of every year, the WWE Universe starts to speculate about what matches will take place at WrestleMania. This year, WrestleMania 31 is under the microscope, and apparently more is already planned than we initially thought.
“WWE is currently planning spots for two special guests. The first is most likely The Rock, and the second is expected to be Sting. The Undertaker hasn’t ruled out “one more match”, but also hasn’t settled one way or another. Sting has stated in the past that if he couldn’t work with the “Deadman” at WrestleMania 31, he’d like a match with Triple H.
“As has been reported for months now, the expected main event is Brock Lesnar defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns. The former Shield heavy is currently recovering from injury, but is expected back in the next few months, and unless something goes horribly wrong he’ll be back in time for the Royal Rumble.
“Another match being discussed is John Cena vs. Rusev.”
That’s not all, as Triple H vs. the Rock is being rumored to take place at WrestleMania 31 as well. Before any criticism takes place, sit back and analyze all of the matches that are reported above. Which matches make sense, and which are simply a bad idea?
Rusev and John Cena would make Rusev’s career. Not only that, that match would also put Lana in the spotlight, even more than she already is. Remember, he has yet to lose a match by pinfall or submission. His undefeated streak isn’t being talked about a lot, but that needs to be clarified every once in a while. The question that comes from the WWE fans: Will Cena put over Rusev at the biggest event of the year?
A lot of scrutiny will come through about Cena’s burying of many superstars before Rusev. To be candid, Cena doesn’t bury anybody. They write the script that way, and a superstar can say no if they don’t want to lose to Cena. There is certainly room for discourse in the WWE Creative offices.
As for Sting and the Undertaker, nobody should complain about that match. It’s a fantasy contest between two legendary wrestlers. To make the rumor stand more, a good source within the WWE said that Sting would debut in late January. The Undertaker also didn’t rule out a match at WrestleMania 31, but without the Phenom, Sting would want to face Triple H. Either way, the WWE Universe would finally get to see Sting.
The Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns news is old, and is still most likely going to be the main event. Unless something major changes, Reigns will win the WWE World Heavyweight championship at the biggest wrestling-event of the year. To top it all off, his cousin, the Rock, might face Triple H in the co-main event.
Like the report said, they are all rumors. Wrestling is an industry where people talk way too much, and things get exaggerated or changed around. For all we know, Dean Ambrose could face the Big Show at WrestleMania 31 in the main event. Clearly, that won’t happen, but the point is the WWE can be unpredictable at times. Until February comes, take anything WrestleMania 31-related as a rumor.
