‘DriveClub’ Free PS Plus Edition Delayed Due To Server Issues
The PlayStation 4 exclusive DriveClub was hit with another delay of sorts. The planned Tuesday free release of the game for PlayStation Plus subscribers has been delayed due to the game’s servers being overwhelmed.
The announcement was made by developer Evolution Studios early Wednesday morning following the game’s absence from the weekly PlayStation Store Update the day before. The PlayStation Plus edition of DriveClub was to include a slice of the game featuring eleven tracks set in India, ten cars, and full access to both online and offline gameplay modes. However, owners of the full edition of the racing game have been experiencing severe issues connecting to the game’s servers. This led to the decision to delay the free PS Plus edition to prevent another flood of players from overloading the servers.

“In order to help all ‘DRIVECLUB’ players who have the game already, we’re temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the My DRIVECLUB app to ease the load and traffic to the servers,” Evolution Studio wrote in an update on the game’s official Facebook page. “This should give players a better chance of connecting to the game servers and, once the servers are operating well, we’ll be sure to let you know when the PS Plus Edition and My DRIVECLUB app will be available to download.”
“To our PS Plus fans, we’re sorry you’re having to wait longer to play, but we want to ensure that when you come on board, you get the best experience possible,” the developer continued. “Rest assured, if you’ve pre-ordered the full game upgrade from the PS Plus Edition, you will still get the full version of ‘DRIVECLUB’ digitally, and if you can’t get online you’ll be able to get started offline like everybody else with single player mode as you start your ‘DRIVECLUB’ tour. You’ll still be able to earn fame, unlock cars and get to grips with all of the options for playing and creating your own events and challenges – and everything you do will be synchronised with the servers when you do get connected, so you can set-up a bunch of challenges to send out to your friends as soon as you are able to join each other online.”
The server issues with DriveClub disappointed fans who have been anticipating the racing game since it was first announced as a PS4 launch title. The comments page on the PS Store Update page is filled with upset gamers along with NeoGaf, Reddit, and other forums.
This also proves to be another problem for Sony. The company recognized the need to increase its server capacity during a financial earnings call in July, as The Inquisitr reported, and promised to increase investment in the PSN network infrastructure. PlayStation 4 owners have a right to be concerned if the first AAA exclusive release for holiday 2014 has overwhelmed the PSN servers to such a degree.
