‘American Horror Story’: Gwyneth Paltrow Could Join Cast, But Which ‘Freak’ Would She Play?

The American Horror Story: Freak Show cast is crowded, so it’s getting harder and harder to find room for new characters underneath Ryan Murphy’s red-and-white striped tent.

However, Murphy hinted that he’s not done casting guest stars for Season 4 of his horror series, and Gwyneth Paltrow actually has her sights set on a role on the FX show. If it’s good enough for Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, and Angela Bassett, then it’s good enough for Goop.

Murphy told People that Paltrow has actually talked to him about appearing on American Horror Story: Freak Show.

“She would love to be on this show.”

“We’ll see,” Murphy responded when asked if Paltrow will score a part on Freak Show.

This news might seem weird and random, but Gwyneth is rumored to be dating American Horror Story co-creator Brad Falchuk. She also worked with Ryan Murphy on Glee, and it’s obvious that Murphy likes working with the same stars over and over again — Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, and Sarah Paulson have appeared on every season of American Horror Story. Ryan also cast Matt Bomer in a mysterious Freak Show role after working with the actor on HBO’s The Normal Heart. According to Entertainment Weekly, Bomer’s role is very “warped.”

This season’s guest star list also includes Wes Bentley as Edward Mordrake, a man with an evil face on the back of his head.

If Gwyneth Paltrow were to play a freak on American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy would have to come up with something pretty creative. His cast of colorful female characters already includes a bearded lady, a three-breasted woman, conjoined twins, the World’s Smallest Woman, an Amazonian woman, and a “half woman” who goes by the stage name “Legless Suzy.”

A few American Horror Story: Freak Show teasers have featured a three-legged woman, so perhaps Gwyneth should grow an extra appendage. She could make sure that her tri-legged lady looks fab by having one of her Diane von Furstenberg for Goop tuxedo jumpsuits altered to make room for one more leg.

Ryan could also look to Gwyneth Paltrow’s movies for inspiration. She could don her fat suit from Shallow Hal to transform into the freak show’s “fat lady,” or she could become a body-less head in a box like she did in Se7en. However, she’d have to stay alive like Kathy Bates’ American Horror Story: Coven character.

According to New York Magazine, Gwyneth Paltrow already smears a beauty product made out of fish eggs on her face, so perhaps she’d like to become the world’s only living mermaid. If the actress insisted on becoming a beautiful mythological creature, she could also be cast as a human unicorn. According to The Human Marvels, it is actually possible for humans to sprout horn-like growths on their heads. The most famous “horned human” is probably “Wang the Human Unicorn.”

Gwyneth would obviously have to use prosthetics and CGI to become a “freak,” but some of the American Horror Story: Freak Show stars were born with their unique looks. One of these stars is named Rose Siggins, and she plays Legless Suzy. FX recently did a mini-doc about the fascinating woman behind the sideshow character.

American Horror Story did similar videos about two other incredible women: super-tall stunner Erika Ervin, a.k.a. Amazon Eve, and World’s Smallest Woman Jyoti Amge.

American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres October 8 at 10 p.m. ET on FX. Would you like to see Gwyneth Paltrow join this cast of amazing women?
