The Walking Dead’s fifth season is set to begin on October 12, and as anticipation builds towards the first episode of its latest outing, various cast members have been discussing what’s in store for their characters.
Melissa McBride, who plays Carol on the series, has been talking about the potential love interest between her character and Daryl . Over the last few seasons, the pair have grown closer and closer. During the last two years, it’s looked as though the pair have become more intimate.
McBride told Comic Book that she is adamant there is chemistry between the pair, even though Daryl became closer to Emily Kinney’s Beth over the last couple of episodes.
“It’s only odd in that nothing has ever been substantiated so a lot of it I feel like is the creation of the fans. There’s obviously some kind of chemistry between those two characters and part of that is that they have a lot in common as far as where they come from and the struggles that they’ve each experienced and tried to overcome and continue to in that post-apocalyptic world and they support one another because they understand that in one another. It’s like, let’s see how many steps forward we can get and if one goes backwards, one’s there to pull them forward again. Keep an eye out for each other in that way.”
McBride also went into more detail about what she likes about the pair’s relationship, explaining that there’s a subtlety to their romance that the show’s fans have clearly started to resonate with. However she still doesn’t know if anything is going to grow between Carol and Norman Reedus’ much-loved character.
“So it’s a neat, sort of still-unspoken thing and it’s lovely to me, it’s very sweet. But no, this phenomenon thing, this whole shipping thing… the fans are just so incredibly passionate and it’s something they want to happen, or they’ve seen things that… I don’t know! I love it that they’re engaged but no, when you think of early on and then you see today how fervent people are about these hook-ups, I never would have seen that coming either.”
The highly anticipated return of The Walking Dead will take place on AMC when its fifth season begins next Sunday at 9 p.m.
Do you think that Carol and Daryl will continue to hook-up? Or would you rather see Daryl end up with Beth instead?
