Teresa Giudice isn’t in the best of spirits following her prison sentencing on Thursday, and you can probably imagine why. The mother of four was sentenced to 15 months behind bars for committing fraud, a sentence that she will begin serving in January 2015. According to People Magazine , Teresa is having a very hard time accepting the fact that she has to go to jail.
“She’s not doing well,” revealed a source close to The Real Housewives of New Jersey star.
People Magazine caught up with Tre before she went into the RHONJ reunion taping and asked her how she was doing. She quietly responded, “OK,” and kept on walking.
Teresa Giudice has a lot more to worry about then just a 15-month prison sentence too. You see, her husband, Joe Giudice, will have to serve time in jail as well — 41 months to begin after she has done her time. That means that Joe will be raising the couple’s four daughters (ages 5 to 13) while Teresa is locked up, and then will be leaving the house for over three years to serve his time. This isn’t something easy to deal with, and it’s starting to become very real to both Teresa and Joe.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Teresa was pretty confident that she was not going to be sentenced to prison. Her attorney was hopeful that Teresa would be sentenced to house arrest and/or probation, but that wasn’t what Judge Esther Salas had in mind on Thursday.
“Lawyers for the couple will ask for leniency and probation for both, with no jail time. Teresa is very positive that the United States Justice Department won’t recommend that she go to jail either. She is very eager to review what prosecutors are asking for. Of course, the judge will have the final say.”
Judge Salas may have given Teresa probation had the reality star actually come prepared with the proper requested paperwork.
“For a moment, I thought about probation. For a moment,” Judge Salas told Teresa, according to Fox News . “I need to send a message that it isn’t who you are, how famous you are. If you do something wrong, there will be consequences to pay.”
It was later reported that Teresa didn’t have proper documentation of her assets, and that she neglected to fill out some forms that she was required to bring with her to the hearing. And the result was sort of just Judge Salas doing her job. She said that she didn’t feel like Teresa truly respected the court or the legal process… and so her decision to send Teresa to jail reflected that.
Many believe that this was the right decision. Do you?
