Rupert Grint Talks About Ridiculous ‘Harry Potter’ Salary
Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in Harry Potter, had a childhood that was far from regular. Instead of attending school and hanging out with friends like boys his age, he spent most of his time on movie sets and attending red carpet events.
In an exclusive interview with Mirror UK, Grint, now 26 years old, talked about the money that he was paid for all the Harry Potter movies saying that he doesn’t have an idea of the exact amount.
“It was kind of ridiculous what we got. And I must admit I don’t actually know how much I earned – the exact number. I’ve always known it was kinda ‘there,’ and I’ve got quite an active involvement in stuff like that now, but I don’t really know the exact figures. And I’ve never really wanted to. I’m quite a laid-back person and not overly ambitious, really.”
It was estimated that Grint and his co-star Emma Watson were paid about £25 million ($39 million) each for their Harry Potter roles. Grint also discussed how money can be blinding to some. He even encountered some girls who only wanted to date him because of his popularity and wealth.
“It was a tricky thing. You’d always worry whether it was a genuine thing – and I think that goes with any kind of relationship, even friendships. It took me a while to figure out whether someone was genuine or they had ulterior motives.”
Grint admits that with the role he played in Harry Potter films, he can survive without working another day in his life, but he refuses to do that. He is now debuting on Broadway, which is different from his experience acting in movies. He will be taking the stage for the first time on Thursday in It’s Only A Play, and will be acting alongside Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, and F. Murray Abraham.
Rupert said that being on Broadway is scary for him and he feels under pressure because he is out of his comfort zone. However, he also feels comfortable with the people he is working with as “there are no big egos.”
Rupert Grint plays the character of Frank Finger, a theater director that he describes as a “psychopath.”
Grint starred in the first Harry Potter movie when he was just 11 years old and was 22 years old when the last movie in the Harry Potter installment came out.
