The Big Bang Theory gang might become a little smaller, and it’s all Emily’s fault.
In “The Hook-Up Reverberation,” Raj is ready to introduce Emily (Laura Spencer) to his pals. However, in a sneak peek of the upcoming episode, Sheldon hints that Raj might lose a few friends to make room in his life for his new ladylove. Of course, he cites a scientific study that backs up his claim.
“According to a recent study out of Oxford University, when someone takes on a new romantic partner, that person loses one or two close friends.”
Sheldon went on to share TMI by revealing that he learned this while sitting on the toilet (the theoretical physicist considers social science ideal bathroom reading). In the sneak peek video, fans also learn that Sheldon is terrified of dinosaurs and chickens. However, he would have no problem scarfing down a dinosaur chicken salad sandwich.
Sheldon’s weird food wish might not be granted anytime soon on The Big Bang Theory , but his prediction about Raj losing friends could come true. According to a CBS press release , “The Hook-Up Reverberation” will be about Penny’s efforts to find out why Emily doesn’t like her. Emily’s coldness has something to do with “Raj’s honesty about his past,” so Raj likely told her about the time he and Penny almost hooked up.
Raj and Penny ended up in bed together in the Season 4 episode “The Roommate Transmogrification.” However, in the Season 5 premiere titled “The Skank Reflex Analysis,” it’s revealed that they didn’t actually sleep together — Raj had condom problems, and his body couldn’t wait until he was actually having coitus.
CBS shared another teaser on The Big Bang Theory website that shows Penny telling Bernadette and Amy that she doesn’t think Emily likes her. Their conversation takes an odd turn when Penny makes a joke about one of her teachers.
“I used to think that my high school P.E. teacher didn’t like me, but it turns out she liked me a little too much. It was fine. We went to a Melissa Etheridge concert, I got an A, it all worked out.”
One of The Big Bang Theory set photos shows business suit Penny in Emily’s dermatology office, so it looks like the former waitress’ new job as a pharmaceutical rep will give her a little one-on-one time with Raj’s girlfriend. Hopefully the girls work things out when they’re forced to spend time together — if they don’t, Raj could be forced to choose between his friend and his girlfriend.
The second plot of “The Hook-Up Reverberation” will revolve around the guys deciding if they want to become part-owners of Stuart’s comic book store. It burned down last season, but it looks like Stuart decided to rebuild. However, he might need a little financial help from his friends. The guys’ comic book store discussion turns into a drawn-out joke about pedophiles kidnapping kids using candy and vans.
Hopefully pedophile jokes, prehistoric chickens, and girlfriend drama will be enough to get the critics to change their mind about season 8 of The Big Bang Theory . As The Inquisitr previously reported, they haven’t been impressed with what they’ve seen so far.
You can see if you think that The Big Bang Theory is getting better or worse when “The Hook-Up Reverberation” airs Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
