Actor Zachary Quinto Comes Out Of The Closet
Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto has come out of the closet after a gay teenager’s suicide left him in “indescribable despair” over the teens bullying.
Speaking with New York Magazine:
“As a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it,” he says, “but as a human being I look at it and say, ‘Why?'”
When asked about his understanding of gay and lesbians troubles in America Quinto says it was his role in the Broadway play ‘Angels in America’ about a man who leaves his AIDS-ridden boyfriend that helped him understand issues that are faced by many LGBT Americans.
The announcement comes after years of Zachary advocating for gay rights while keeping his own sexual orientation a secret. Last year Quinto said of gay rights:
“These things are such hot-button issues right now, socially and politically,” and “I would much rather talk about that thantalk about who I sleep with.”
It’s nice to see more people standing up for the rights of all people in our country, especially in the case of Zachary Quinto who outed himself to raise more awareness. What do you think of Zachary coming out of the closet to help raise awareness about gay bullying.
