It appears as if our Olympic Hero Kurt Angle has had talks with WWE about a return. However, what went down when he spoke to the company? Was there any interest? It seems that Angle wants to end up somewhere to retire, and the former WWE Champion would ideally like to retire after a final run in WWE. Whether or not WWE would allow it is another thing entirely. Angle spoke with Alternative Nation about his talks with WWE.
A lot of people wanted to know if Vince McMahon held a grudge with Angle regarding the way he left in 2006. Angle just signed a big deal with the WWE to stay. He was their top man, and then all the sudden he wanted to leave. Vince agreed to let him out of his contract, and did so with the thought that Angle would rest and come back to WWE. Instead, he jumped to TNA Wrestling, and many believed that Vince hated Angle for the move.
The two were said to have had an honest conversation, discussing it all. And hostilities they did have were put to bed. Angle said the following about the meeting.
“As long as Vince and I don’t have any issues, I’m okay with that.”
Angle was also a bit shocked that McMahon had taken a step back in dealing with things. Triple H is now the Head of Talent Relations. He controls every aspect of this area. This has actually been good for WWE, as Triple H has been bringing in talent that the fans want. On top of that, he has been the man who helped bring back former WWE wrestlers like Ultimate Warrior and Bruno Sammartino, something Vince has attempted but has not been successful with.
Triple H has done well in his new role, and many people have commended him for his work. Angle had no idea that Vince was still not over this area, as he thought Vince would have total control.
“Triple H is pretty much running the show now. I didn’t know that, I really believed that Vince would always run the show until the day he died.”
When asked if he would like to be in the WWE Hall of Fame, Angle was open to the idea and would like to be part of it. However, he claimed that it would not be the end of the world if he was never inducted. I think we can all assume he will be one day.
Angle was then asked where he planned to sign. Many want it to be WWE, but there are those who want to see him end his career with TNA. Angle was not budging on the secret though, saying…
“I can’t really say who I’m going with yet or what company I’m going to sign with. I am going to sign, but I’m going to just sign for 1 year, and that’s that. I think I’m pretty much done, I’m just going to have the best year I can have.”
Speculation is that Kurt Angle talking with WWE at all means he ideally wants to go back with them for one final run. On top of this, he can end things the right way. If WWE will take back guys like Hulk Hogan and even sign an older Sting, why not a guy who can still be seen as a wrestling cyborg in Kurt Angle?
The fact that he just wants to have one year somewhere also means that WWE signing him to one short-term deal would be ideal for them. He potentially work two WrestleManias and end his career after the last.
Angle’s 90-day no compete clause, if he has one with TNA, would end around January, which obviously leaves the door open for WWE’s WrestleMania build-up period. Angle is still coming off of an injury, so time off before a big year run would be good for him. This is especially true if he were to be full time in WWE. WWE could surely use Kurt Angle , and a lot of fans would like to see it. Now we just have to wait and see where the Olympic Gold Medalist decides to go.
