Shark Attack Vs. Killer Whales Attack? Orca Pod Takes On Tiger Shark On Video
If you had a shark attack a killer whale on video who do you think would win? Well, this fight was not exactly fair because the poor tiger shark had to take on a whole orc pod, but marine biologists apparently say this video was a first since it showed the killer whales eating a shark.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, a great white shark attack on a sea lion was caught on video by shark cage divers. The crazy part is that the sea lion even attempted to escape the great white shark by temporarily hiding in the cage with the divers. But if you’re looking for something even more exotic, check out the article about the rare white orca spotted off the coast of Russia.
Researchers have known for quite a while that killer whales target their prey and coordinate an attack, but videos of this hunting behavior in action is very rare. According to Barcroft TV, underwater photographer Caroline Power and marine biologist Nicholas Bach were on a diving trip following an orca pod near Costa Rica when a tiger shark had the foul luck to run into the killer whales.
The three killer whales attacked and forced the tiger shark to the surface, flipped it over, and then paralyzed the smaller sea creature by inducing a state called tonic immobility. Despite being about seven feet, the orca pod made quick work of the tiger shark, devouring it on camera until only bones remained.
The divers opted for the safety of their boat so we do not get to see all the action, but what we do see should make everyone realize that a shark attack is not match for a killer whales attack.
