Tom Cruise The Victim Of Big Pharma Conspiracy? Juliette Lewis Defends Fellow Scientologist
Are pharmaceutical companies out to get Tom Cruise for his belief in Scientology? It is true that Scientology claims to be an alternative to psychiatry and drugs like Ritalin and anti-depressants. The motivation seems clear, if everyone believes in Scientology pharmaceuticals stand to lose a fortune in drug sales. The only problem with the theory is a complete lack of evidence, but that didn’t stop Juliette Lewis from explaining the situation as she sees it.
“I’ll get all conspiratorial on you, and I’m just going to throw this out: The mainstream media is funded by pharmaceutical companies, so when you have the biggest movie star in the world at the time—Tom Cruise—coming out against anti-depressants and Ritalin and just saying, ‘Hey, why don’t you put a warning label on there?’… I’ve never seen someone get torn down so hard.”
Although the specifics are vague, the actress is likely referring to an incident on the NBC’s Today show.
In 2005, Cruise did a interview with Today host Matt Lauer. When the subject of anti-depressants came up, the talk became uncomfortable. Tom Cruise was direct about his view that psychiatry was a pseudo-science and people were being drugged without having enough knowledge about the harm. At one point he accused Lauer of being “glib” and not even knowing what Ritalin really is.
Cruise later apologized for being “arrogant” with Matt Lauer, but according to Juliette Lewis, Tom was already marked as an enemy.
“The thing about Scientology is it is anti-drug… So, when Tom came out about that, I’ve never seen someone get torn down so hard, and they still brutalize him with Scientology pieces to this day.”
Tom Cruise has become the unofficial face of the church. His dedication has seemed to some people as cult-like, and potentially unhealthy. The church’s leader David Miscavige referred to the Cruise as “the most dedicated Scientologist I know.” Coming from the leader, that accolade may mean that Tom is the most dedicated Scientologist, period.
The religion has been the cause of marital difficulties with Katie Holmes. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Katie Holmes admitted that she divorced Cruise to protect their daughter from the Church of Scientology. The media certainly does find a lot of material to defame Scientology and Tom Cruise’s involvement.
In the end, Juliette Lewis believes that Scientology will always be the victim of the media corruption.
“It’s a religious philosophy and self-help movement. And you’ll never see a truthful word written about it in mainstream media.”
Nevertheless, Tom Cruise will no doubt continue to speak out for the controversial beliefs.
