Nicki Minaj ‘Anaconda’ Parody Video Proves Twerking Dumb? Critics Say It’s Misogynistic Slut Shaming
A Nicki Minaj “Anaconda” parody video by Bart Baker has exploded in popularity, earning over seven million views on YouTube since its release last week. But some critics claim the “Anaconda” parody spends more time slut shaming Nicki Minaj’s twerking instead of providing a real parody video.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, a slut shaming study claims the usage of the insulting term is actually a fight caused by class warfare.
Speaking of class welfare and money, the Nicki Minaj “Anaconda” parody video brings in a fake Sir Mix-A-Lot at one point to claim Minaj owes him money for ripping off “Baby Got Back.” He even sics a giant snake on Minaj in order to eat Nicki’s “juicy butt steak.”
Of course, it turns out the real Sir Mix-A-Lot actually likes Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video and isn’t mad at all.
“It’s amazing how people — I guess maybe because they’re not in the industry — but how people think I should be mad about the song. I think it’s cool, she took part of the song, she made a Nicki Minaj song. I love the track, I have fun listening to the track, it’s crazy as hell, and for a guy who likes butts, how can i look at the video and say I don’t like it? I say more power to it. Go Nicki Go!”
Although Sir Mix-A-Lot isn’t mad, some people are a little ticked at Bart Baker for his Nicki Minaj “Anaconda” parody video. For example, Courtney Hakim claims the parody is about as immature as the original twerking nightmare.
“This was literally the worst parody I’ve ever seen. She gets eaten by a snake? Really? And, the whole parody basically explained the music video in an immature way. For example, 1:25. He just explains whats going on, he doesn’t make fun of it. Also, he insults the artist instead of the song and video. This was more of a parody of her rather then the song. It should be entitled: “Nicky Minaj Parody.” This has been what his parodies have been like for the past few videos. Thank you for your time.”
Anthony DeVeaux doesn’t have any problem with Baker attacking Minaj directly, but think mere insults are not enough.
“Baker essentially rewrites music videos to make fun of the artists in them — which could be an entertaining premise. But Baker can rarely muster any kind of thoughtful criticism. Minaj is dumb, he says, half a dozen times. She’s a ‘slut.’ A ‘whore.’ A ‘skank,’ even. She gets Botox injections and plastic surgery. It’s unclear how any of this amounts to legitimate criticism, let alone humor: It’s essentially just a string of misogynistic, slut-shaming insults, wearing the guise of a well-produced joke.”
